One of NuNu's problems was that he couldn't use, or put weight on, two of his paws for a while. One would always fold under ...and the other sort of dangled or turned inward.
He would also easily fall over when bumped or while walking.
Jim and Susan have encouraged him to use the paws more (the toys are helping with this) and to also put weight on them, as well as do things that will off-balance him a bit. This will help him learn to restabilize himself. You can clearly see how much better he is doing.

With all the squirrels we had this year two of them were very memorable. They were very bonded, played together all the time and were were very gentle and sweet. Susan hadn't seen them in a while - since their release - and this week the two came dancing and playing back into the yard. All is well .... and they are still together.

We have some difficult news to share, and we need your financial help. Some of you have noticed we have been rather quiet in the past few weeks, not posting much.
It all started while filming this video of Frankie and Judy. As you can see in this video, Judy suddenly screams out in pain. We didn’t know what was wrong and had a vet come to examine her. At first they thought it was just an injury, or an abscess of some sort. But over the next week she got worse and worse to the point where she was no longer able to stand at all.
More vets came to examine her, xrays and a bunch of tests and although there were many theories ... none seemed to be definitive and nothing seemed to help much. Jim and Susan started doing laser therapy (thank you to Dr. Roeder for leaving her laser with us so we could do the treatment multiple times a day) and over the next few weeks with the laser and medications, Judy has been able to move her legs and feet and occasionally comes to her knees, but mostly she is still doing very poorly. We know it is something wrong with her back, but what exactly, no one is quite sure.
Susan recently saw an article about a chimp at the Evansville zoo that got stem cell treatment for a situation very similar to this, and made a complete recovery. After three weeks, this is a last hope for us, and Dr. Joe is willing to try this experimental treatment for Judy.
The problem is the cost. It will be over $3500 by the time it is all said and done to get this done on Judy, with no guarantees on the outcome. But it remains our best and last option of hope to save our girl. And we desperately want to save her and do whatever we can for her.
Sorry this is so long-winded. It has been an emotional few weeks and we didn’t want to post anything until we had a definitive diagnosis. You all know how much the bears are loved here. We need to try to do everything we can before giving up. Judy’s mental state is good, she wants to eat, she is mentally alert and playful (as much as she can be), but she is immobile and time is running out to find a fix. Will you please consider a donation to help us raise the funds we need to try this treatment? If you can not afford to donate, can you please share this in the hopes that maybe someone on your feed can also help? Thank you all for the love and support.... #TeamJudy

Remember the opossum with the broken pelvis? Here she is!! A couple of weeks ago she had a follow up appointment with Dr Joe. He was happy with her progress. One more week of resting and she can move to a larger enclosure. Dr Joe feels it would be best if she stayed with us for the winter. We are happy to continue to help her.
