After exploring Area 8 of the Black Tower, you’ll face off against Harmony, originally a Veteran Trainer. Infernape will use Work Up to raise its power and Mach Punch for a first strike. Archeops will use U-turn to switch out and raise its Attack stat with the Liechi Berry it holds when running low on HP. Tornadus will use Rain Dance to summon the rain and Hurricane for unavoidable strikes with a 30% chance of confusing the target. After the battle, you’ll unlock Area 9.

In this round, one Dragonair has evolved while the other one is out and replaced by Kingdra. Gyarados will use Thunder Wave to paralyze targets and use Dragon Dance to speed up even more. Kingdra will use Dragon Dance to raise Attack and Speed stats then unleash a powerful Hyper Beam. Aerodactyl is the fastest opponent on the team that can counter with Earthquake if you use anything that has an advantage against it. When the 2nd Dragonite uses Outrage, the Persim Berry it holds gives it a break from confusion for once. Moves like Dragon Claw and Ice Beam would be best uses for this round.

Opelucid City’s gym features a puzzle with dragon heads adjusting and to choose a path to battle trainers. After different types of battles, keep using the dragon statues to move up and you’ll battle the gym leader. Drayden uses Dragon type Pokémon. In Challenge Mode, Druddigon holds a Sitrus Berry with the addition of Altaria. Druddigon has the ability Sheer Force that causes more damage although the moves have their added effects eliminated. Flygon will use Earth Power to lower the target’s Special Defense stat and Rock Slide to make the target flinch. Altaria will use Cotton Guard to raise it Defense stat drastically and Sing to put opponents to sleep. Haxorus will use Dragon Dance to gain power and Shadow Claw for critical hits. After the battle, you’ll receive the Legend Badge and a TM82 (Dragon Tail). The user moves last when using this move and when it strikes, it forces the opponent to switch out for another Pokémon. If Dragon Tail hits a wild Pokémon, the battle ends.

After defeating the Elite Four, you’ll take on Lance, the league champion. Gyarados will use Waterfall for a 20% chance of making the target flinch and Flail to deal more damage if its HP is lower. Dragonite will use Thunder Wave to paralyze the target and Dragon Rush for a 20% chance of making the target flinch. One Dragonite knows Thunder that has a 30% chance of paralyzing and the other one knows Blizzard that has a 10% chance of freezing the target. Aerodactyl will use Rock Slide for a 30% chance of making the target flinch and Aerial Ace to strike without fail. Charizard will use Shadow Claw that has a high critical hit ratio and Air Slash for a 30% chance of making the target flinch. The 3rd Dragonite will use Safeguard to prevent status problems for 5 turns and Fire Blast for a 10% chance of burning the target. After the battle, you’ll enter the hall of fame and unlock new quests for later.

After getting the Plain Badge, go to the florist next door from the Goldenrod City gym to receive a Squirtbottle. There is a mysterious object blocking the path on Route 36, and you can use the Squirtbottle on it. The object is eventually revealed to be a Sudowoodo. Be sure to save your game before interacting with it. Sudowoodo is on Level 20. Be sure to have plenty of Great Balls to catch it. After catching it, the Lass who witnessed your battle will give you some Berry Pots and berries to go along.

At the start, there are Paratroopas coming and a Lakitu throwing Spinies. Go by 3 more Paratroopas and you’ll see Bullet Bill cannons with Buzzy Beetles by them. Cross a big hole and go down a pipe for coins. Back on the surface, you’ll see more cannons and cross a stairway with a Paratroopa coming to reach the flagpole.

Vermilion City’s gym contains trash cans. Interact with the trash can to see which one has a switch under it. Once you find the first switch, find the other one. If you’re wrong on the 2nd one, you’ll have to find the first one again. If you find both switches in a row, the motorized doors will open so you can battle the gym leader. The only Pokémon Lt. Surge uses is Raichu. Raichu knows Mega Punch and Mega Kick that cause big damage, even if you’re armed with a Ground type Pokémon. After the battle, you’ll receive the Thunder Badge and a TM24 (Thunderbolt). Thunderbolt has a 10% chance of paralyzing the target.

After obtaining 7 badges, you’ll learn that the Radio Tower in Goldenrod City has been taken over by Team Rocket. Navigate the Radio Tower and go to the 5th floor to meet Petrel, who is posing as the director. For the 2nd battle, Petrel uses a full team of Koffing. Each Koffing will use Smokescreen to lower the target’s Accuracy stat and Sludge for the 30% chance of poisoning. After the battle, you’ll receive the Basement Key, which will open the door to the underground warehouse in Goldenrod City.

Usually, the White Treehollow is exclusive to White 2, but if you use the Unova Link to unlock the White Treehollow, you can enter the White Treehollow in Black 2. Jariel, a Veteran Trainer can be battled after completing Area 10. Zapdos will use Discharge to paralyze opponents and Roost when low on HP. Cresselia will use Calm Mind to raise its Special stats, Substitute to avoid damage with the cost of a quarter of its HP, and Moonlight when running low on HP. Latias will use Icy Wind to slow down opponents and Draco Meteor for massive damage while the White Herb it holds gives it a break from a lowered stat for once.
