Many orchids that we receive come with the coconut shell wrapped around our new orchids and it is a nightmare to remove. IF we have the right climate, there is no need to remove anything until the orchid has grown large enough for the root clean up to be radical and we can just cut it off. I have a declining pseudobulb to simulate the removal of the fibrous texture of the coconut shell. It may not be a coconut shell that I can demonstrate this with, but seeing as a pseudobulb is just as fibrous and strandy in its structure, it is the next best thing for me to demonstrate the painstaking method of removing it from the roots of our orchid. ?
