Paris, the capital of France, is one of the most important cities in Europe, a world center of art, fashion, gastronomy and culture. Urban architecture dating back to the 19th century is characterized by the wide boulevards and the Seine. In addition to monuments such as the Eiffel Tower and the 12th-century Gothic cathedral of Notre-Dame, the city is renowned for its traditional cafes and haute couture shops along Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré.
Salisbury in Wiltshire / England (UK) is a town that's know mostly for the iconic prehistoric stone circle at Stonehenge. Salisbury itself is also nice to visit before or after the Stonehedge visit.
We start our tour (October 2019) at the Poultry Cross, which is a historic market cross in the centre of Salisbury. We walk straight into Butcher row / Fish row and further to the market place. Along the streets are many of the old houses of Salisbury.
When we walk West to the River Avon at the Maltings we also see some restaurants as well as the St Thomas & St Edmund's Church, nearly where we started.
We head now South of the centre towards the city’s ornate 13th-century cathedral. The Salisbury cathedral has a 123m spire. An original copy of the Magna Carta - a key document from 1215 A.D. - is also on display there.
Once again we walk back towards the River Avon, which leads us to the city centre again. We walks past the Poultry Cross again and are on our way to the train station, where we end this walk.
Istanbul / Turkey has several insteresting districts. On this walk we are in Karaköy with the Galata Tower. We start the walk on a packed viewing platform of this 6th century tower. The view of Istanbul is great up there yet it takes us some 5 minutes to get down and to the street
Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland. With a medieval Old Town hilly city is a tourist favourite in the UK.
We start our tour on a windy autumn day (October 2019) at the Edinburgh Castle. The castle is the main tourist attraction with Scotland’s crown jewels and the Stone of Destiny, used in the coronation of Scottish rulers. It's closing time (and some construction going on).
As we walk down the Royal Mile we reach Hunter Square and turn right the the busy South Bridge Street. We walk past the Nation Museum of Scotland, Bedlam Theatre and some of the university area. After the Southside and George Square Gardens we head back to the Old Town and the Edinburgh Waverley train station.
We pass through the station to the New Town. There we see the Scott Monument and the Scottish National Gallery building as we this walking tour through Edinburgh.
Formentera is the smallest of the Spanish Balearic islands in the Mediterranean Sea. Reachable by ferry from nearby Ibiza, much more known and crowded, in the summer months it is a very popular destination for day trips.
