I love Scotty Kilmer's car channel. He recently made a video titled Anyone can fix a flat. I had to make this video as a reply. Anyone can't fix a flat. Ask me how I know. LOL by the way, I know in the video I said bolt when I should have said stud and made some other automobile errors, but this is not a college class lecture. I am just reminiscing some old memories of flats gone wrong. Hope you enjoy, let me know some of your car adventures. Robb Moffett Robb's Homemade Life
I really needed a mattress. I looked around and could not believe how high the prices were. I bought this one on amazon. It has a lot of positive reviews. It comes in a box shipped to your house. I find it very comfortable, but the idea it is folded up in a box and expands still seems crazy.
if you buy one, you may find it easier to put the mattress on your bed and let if expand there so you do not have to move it through the house later.
Here is a link to the mattress on amazon if you want to read the reviews.

The music is a tune I downloaded last year at Vimeo music store. It was available then via creative commons and I have been waiting a year to come up with a video I can use it with. the music is eerie and perfect fit for the mattress if you are a goofball like me.

I made DIY outriggers or stabilizers that will work on a kayak or canoe or inflatable from scrap wood for about $5 worth of foam and $2 worth of glue.
I cut a piece of scrap 3/16 inch underlayment flooring, about 4 feet long and 7 and 1/2 inches wide.
The foam planks were cut in half. I only used half of the foam I cut. Initially I was planning on making the outriggers 4 feet long but changed to making them only 2 feet long.
The cross member is from scrap; the wood is a piece of 3/8 inch ply that was part of a bed frame.
I used Titebond II Premium wood glue on the foam and wood.
A wooden bracket was made fro ply and hardwood and attached to the top of the float with glue and 2 pieces of wire made tight by twisting. A small piece of wood was glued to the bottom to keep the wore from cutting the foam as it tightened. To clamp the glued pieces I used heavy plants in buckets to press down the foam. To clamp the glued bracket to the foam I used a twisted line which is called a Spanish windlass.
The wooden bracket has a stainless machine screw and nut to hold the cross member the floats are attached to.
The wooden bracket could have been attached even more securely by adding a small strip of wood to the underlayment so the bracket could have been screwed into to make the attachment more secure.
If there is any doubt about the float holding a small cord can be looped around the float and cross member. I drilled a small hole on each end of the cross member to help secure a line to wrap around the float if needed.
Here is a video of me launching and rowing my little $12 Intex 200 inflatable boat. I will be adding these floats to my inflatable kayak later.

What gives a person joy? Robb White wrote in a wonderful informal yet knowledgeable way on the things that gave him joy and the reader is better for it. Robb was most famous for the wooden boats he built but he was also a gifted storyteller, a graduate of Valdosta State, and attended FSU Robb was a biologist, a Navy veteran, a schoolteacher, an outdoorsman, fisherman, tug boat deckhand, cook, and engineer, fisherman, and a keen observer of the North Florida and South Georgia region he spent his life in. He passed away in 2006.

sweet potato leaves for food on the balcony experiment part 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9qVZvjt6ZU
results so far.
The cut up sweet potatoes did not grow well and rotted in the water. The whole tubers have finally grown well after a very slow start, but the clear container is full of algae covering the roots and the leaf growth for that plant is stunted.
I tested a few of the leaves for tatse by adding them to a sandwich
I made and cooked in my sandwhich toaster and the leaves were very mild tasting. I will do more extensive cooking next week and test by boiling and freezing and baking.
I am adding foam to bounce light off one side to increase the sunlight as I only get 2 hours of morning sun.

I have a hard time throwing away empty glass jars. Walmart does not make it easier for me.
If I soak the glass jars overnight the labels come off and don't leave any glue residue. Walmart is enabling my glass jar addiction.

I wanted to modify my Intex explorer inflatable K2 kayak and make it into a sailboat that I could keep in my small apartment. Since I only spent $75 on the inflatable kayak I thought I would try to keep the remainder of the sailboat under $100.
To do this I used low-cost pine wood and a painter's water-resistant drop cloth for the sail. I used scrap tongue and groove wood for the leeboard and 2x3 wood for the frame and a 2x2 piece of wood for the mast and 1x2 for the yard and boom. I used an oar for the steering oar.
While sailing for the first time the oar kept coming out of the metal U support making it impossible to steer except for a few moments at a time which made it hard to control, or tack. As I sailed
downwind the frame broke near where it is attached at the front corner and I had to paddle back to my starting place which took some effort.
Some things worked in the design surprisingly well and some did not. I will make improvements and try again.
Pro
what worked
1.) Boat cushion seats
2.) Leeboard- partially
3.) sail, as far as I know. I really need more time to judge, but the moments the boat was under control it behaved well.
4.) halyard
5.) Frame reinforcement
6.) air pump
7.) Buckets
8.) carabiner, cord and cleat frame attachment
9. ) paddle against the wind
10. ) pipe insulation foam chafe protection for frame
11. gooseneck and boom
Con
what did not work
1.) Frame corner joint split
2.) Steering oar popped out of metal U support rendering steering ineffective
3.) Leeboard jammed
4.) Machine screws hard to insert and nuts time consuming
5.) lost hat in a gust
6. . skeg not attached
7 ) mast not easy to remove in an emergency
8.) life jacket wrong color
Improvements I will make
1.) add butterfly nuts larger washers
2.) strengthen cross frames with a plank across top athwartship.
3.) add a cup holder
4.) add preventer to the steering oarlock
5.) add width to the frame to keep leeboard from rubbing
6.) widen leeboard slot by 3/4 inch
7.) add reef points to sail
8) add second steering oar
9.) add rope from bow to assist entering
10.add camera mounts
11.)add grease to leeboard
12.) take a luggage cart
13. add skeg before assembling
14. add highly visible color to the lifejacket

My Jetson bolt Pro E bike was delivered to me with a warped disc brake or brake rotor. I was able to flatten the disc back into shape using a rubber mallet and vise grips.
To help determine where the brake rotor was misaligned I made a mark on the perimeter with a whiteboard marker. When the wheel was turned the brake pads would rub off the marking on one side or the other so I could see where I needed to push the disc in or pull it out to make it flat. I was surprised at how well it worked.
Before I began making repairs. I looked on Amazon to find a replacement and purchased one for about $10. In order to install it I would need to remove the wheel from the bike and the rear wheel is a little cumbersome to remove so I decided to first try and see if I could straighten the brake disc. Since I was able to straighten my brake disc I did not need to install the new one I purchased on Amazon.
If you can't straighten your brake disc and need to replace it there are several videos on YouTube showing how to remove the rear wheel in order to repair a flat tire. Watch one of those videos to help you see how to gain access to the rotor for replacement.
A lot of the parts on this bike are secured with hex nuts and the threads have had a liquid added to make it difficult for them to screw out from vibrations in normal use.
To do maintenance and repairs on this bike it's important to have a good set of hex nut wrenches. I recommend this set highly.

I can't have coffee anymore so have experimented with coffee substitutes. Last year I found a brand called Almost Coffee which had a nice flavor and dark color but had to filter it and it was no longer available on Amazon. I tried Pero which is a similar non coffee substitute made from grains and I actually liked it better than Almost Coffee. It has a smoother taste and better color. Plus it makes a little foam without having to add a creamer. If you can't find it in your store here is the amazon link.
