Todays homesteading and Shedwars21 adventure is a bit of spring foraging around the property. Its early in the spring seasonfor harvesting and many of the edible wild and naturalized plants are not really producing much that is edible and yet but the daylilies (Hemerocallis fulva) shoots are up and its time for a seasonal snack.
Feeding yourself does not always have to be complicated, sometimes sturdy perennial plants like these daylilies can provide not only beauty but a little bit of food as they grow in our woodlands or gardens.

We haven't been raising ducks for a few years, but raising ducks was our very first homestead endeavor. Ducks are great for a small-scale homestead, and as we try to integrate our small-scale animal endeavors with our garden space, ducks have come back up in discussion as a viable option. Not only does raising ducks provide meat and eggs, but they also provide valuable insect control around the garden. So, we are back to raising a small flock of homestead ducks.

Today in the garden, we are harvesting food for winter out of a garden that needs to be planted. Around here, many of our herbs and "weeds" grow wild and crazy. so as we thin and clear out areas, we harvest that food for the winter season. This year, since we are participating in the #50dollarfebruary2023 challenge, it is very important to be sure that we are getting enough food stored away for the winter months.
