Terry McAuliffe was governor when three people died and dozens were injured amidst fighting between white nationalists and counter demonstrators in Charlottesville, VA. Now, he's published a book entitled "Beyond Charlottesville: Taking a Stand Against White Nationalism."
As part of his tour promoting the book, McAuliffe stopped by the National Press Club in Washington DC to take questions about the book, his actions as governor, and his view for the future.
McAuliffe has received a number of protesters at his events promoting the book, many of which are survivors of August themselves. Some people shouted out once during the event, and again following it.

One man has been detained following an hours-long standoff in the Georgetown Area of Washington DC. Barricading himself in an office, allegedly with a firearm, the currently unnamed man was allegedly mental ill.
SWAT tactical units were present and closed off a four-block radius from the building, citing safety concerns in case of any explosive devices.
Despite a tense situation and hundreds of heavily armed units, the situation ended peacefully. The man has not been charged with any crimes and will first undergo a mental evaluation.
Lt. Alan Hill, who made headlines earlier for allegedly defrauding the Washington D.C. school system, acted as the "Incident Commander" during the standoff.

Tens of thousands of National Guard soldiers and law enforcement including 200 NYPD officers patrolled the streets of Washington Wednesday as the inauguration of President Joe Biden took place.
Biden himself had discouraged travel to the event, which had extremely limited attendance. Hundreds of his supporters gathered throughout the city, and there were no significant clashes or tensions.

Activists including dozens of children and clergy gathered Thursday morning in the rotunda of the Russell Senate Office Building to protest what they call "the cruel treatment of immigrants by the Trump Administration."
The action was organized by LA RED (Liberation, Action, Respect, Equity, Dignity). Other groups involved included Faith in Action, DMV Sanctuary Congregation Network, Franciscan Action Network, National Domestic workers Alliance, Moms Rising, and We Belong Together.
Dozens of children sat next to dog cages and wore Mylar survival blankets to mimic the conditions faced by detained immigrant children.
LA Red director Richard Morales told News2Share that he organized the event because, "We are outraged by the Trump administration's policy of zero tolerance, which is leading to the family separation. It is also leading to mass incarceration and the long term detention of immigrant families."
"We are here today to ask congress to pressure the administration to do everything in their power to make sure families are not only together, but free."
"I think the worst thing you can do to a child, as an immigrant, is to separate them from their families," added Lorenzo Morales, Richard's ten-year-old son.
Richard Morales also told News2Share that Trump's executive order to keep families together doesn't go far enough. "It's not sufficient. What he needs to do is end the zero-tolerance policy," he said. He explained that if convicted of entering the country illegally, a migrant family would still be separated.
Rev. Dr. Robert M. Hardies of All Souls Church Unitarian explained that he found comments by Attorney General Jeff Sessions on the subject to be a travesty.
"It's really just so untruthful to sort of turn to the bible to justify this cruel treatment of children. It couldn't be further from Jesus's message," he told News2Share.
The action lasted about 20 minutes total before police shut it down. The group backed down and retreated outside after being given three warnings by Capitol Police. The activists also said they planned to deliver letters to members of congress later in the day.
Faith In Action plans to hold similar demonstrations this weekend at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Anti-Trump protesters assembled Thursday in opposition to former President Trump's rally in the Bronx, which comes after arguments closed in his criminal trial in Manhattan earlier this week.
A brief scuffle broke out over Trump supporters' Israeli flag, which led police - some in riot gear - to separate the two sides as some protesters fled.
NYPD officers (some marked "Counterterrorism Bureau") faced protesters chanting "Trump supports Diddy!"
"No justice, no peace!"
"Go home! Go home!" Trump supporters chanted from across the police line.
"If you don't like him [Trump], go suck a d***!" a Trump supporter told filmmaker Rod Webber, who proceeded to pretend to take him up on the offer literally: "You told me to suck a d***! Let's go!"
Performance artist Crackhead Barney attempted to interview and confront pro-Trump rapper Forgiato Blow.
"Trump's gonna send you out of this country when he wins," Blow said, prompting Barney to ask him if he's racist.
Blow invited a crowd to rally behind him, who all jumped up and down while saying "We want Trump!"
A volunteer with "True the Vote" then attempted to interview Crackhead Barney about election security, which she said she couldn't do because "I'm a crackhead."
A Hamas supporter outside the Trump Bronx rally argued with a QAnon supporter.
"Hamas, the Houthis and Hezbollah are heroes!" the Hamas supporter said repeatedly, before remarking that "Donald Dump, stupid is as stupid does!" to the QAnon supporter.
The QAnon supporter described his movement and said "we are all QAnon."
"No we not, we all ain't QAnon!" the other responded.
"You not QAnon 'cause you a bum."
A Trump impersonator walked outside the Trump Bronx rally, attracting a crowd.
"Democrats are evil!" he said. "Liberalism is a cancer and I am the cure!"
The rally concluded with no apparent arrests on either side of the demonstrations outside.
