Many people have never heard the dial-up modem sound we dinosaur computer users had to listen to whenever we tried to connect to the web. I was trying to describe the dial-up modem sound phonetically to someone the other day and we had a good laugh. This is my attempt to capture the sounds phonetically. I failed miserably in the middle but I got a few parts right. I am interested in hearing what it sounded like to you guys.
I first started using computers in the 1970s and remember the first mouse I ever saw. In fact, I remember in High School and the top geek in our school was sitting in a study area talking to a friend and he said that he could speak three languages, English, Latin, and computers. I laughed out loud at the idea of talking to computers. Who is laughing now? He is probably living in a 12,000 square foot house somewhere in a gated community and I am driving a 94 Corolla.
Whenever I hear the dial-up modem sound it is a very nostalgic sound and brings back good memories of the 80s and 90s. Sometimes I miss the 20th century.
