Take another look at Disney's The Little Mermaid in this latest teaser for the upcoming live-action movie. This reimagining of the studio’s animated musical classic stars Halle Bailey as Ariel, Daveed Diggs as the voice of Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as the voice of Flounder, Awkwafina as the voice of Scuttle, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Art Malik as Sir Grimsby, Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina, Javier Bardem as King Triton, and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula.
The Little Mermaid is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
The Little Mermaid is directed by Rob Marshall with a screenplay by David Magee. The songs feature music from Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman, and new lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The film is produced by Marc Platt, p.g.a., Miranda, John DeLuca, p.g.a., and Rob Marshall, p.g.a., with Jeffrey Silver serving as executive producer.
The Little Mermaid opens in theaters on May 26, 2023.
Officially defining Sylvie as a nexus being would be significant, and it would rightfully signify her as integral to the Multiverse Saga. Loki is leading the charge in multiversal storytelling, and Loki’s hunt for Victor Timely in season 2 will further affirm that. As there’s no word yet if Loki will get a third season, it’s logical to assume this will all lead right into various upcoming properties, of which Sylvie must be part. She needs a life outside Loki not only to showcase her full potential in the MCU but also to further set up the culmination of her actions in season 1.
Even if she wasn’t a nexus being like Kang or Scarlet Witch, she deserves to be a central focus. In fact, it would be notable given how drastically she affected reality if she wasn’t a nexus being. Whatever the case, Sylvie must be as significant of a player as Loki in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, fighting alongside heroes of all kinds to save their reality from Kang. Hopefully, this can lead to even more exciting projects in the future too. She was an original creation of Loki, but she doesn’t deserve to be lost in his shadow.
