Over the last few days, intel released their 10th generation lineup of CPU’s. They introduced ice lake a few days ago which is the first time we have mass production of their 10nm CPU's. In case you didn’t know, back in 2018 they released some 10nm chips under the Canon lake moniker but it was at really low volume and super low performance.
Anyways, the 10th generation Ice lake made its first appearance and most of the outlets covering it had mixed responses. The 10nm chips IPC was great but the clocks were pretty low making them not much faster than the 9th gen family.
So what does Intel do? Why not go back to 14nm and release more of those ! And here we are with intel adding 8 new-ish 14nm +++ comet lake processors to the same 10th gen lineup. If you want a breakdown of how confusing intel’s naming scheme is for this gen’s lineup and how absurd this family is, Click up here for a hardwarecanucks video on it.
Personally, I think Intel is just trying to do what it can without losing face. Don't get me wrong, the naming scheme is absolutely a problem and will lead to a lot of confusion for the customers, but if we just look at the lineup itself, here is where intel stands.
First, Their ice lake chips have great IPC, but they cant clock high enough to make a difference.
Second, they consume way too much power compared to the 14nm chips. I mean you can get 6 cores 12 threads at much higher clocks for almost half the consumption.
Third, it looks like intel might be trying to force ice lake onto us by only allowing gen11 graphics to their ice lake chips. Comet lake only gets intel’s UHD which means new features like Integer scaling and the added performance in gen11 is locked into Ice Lake. Now there might be other reasons for that like gen11 was built on 10nm and can't get ported over to 14 but still. Intel should have thought about that. Plus, Ice lake also gets UHD graphics so why was that design ported over.
Anyways, it looks like intel has serious issues at 10nm and I now clearly understand why we won't see in on our desktops until 2022.

Nvidia’s DLSS... The tech that we want in every game, every PC and every console thanks to its boost in FPS with minimal visual quality decrease. basically the big bad wolf haunting amd, day in day out until the red team figures out how to make something similar with RDNA 2. Well, amd has been working hard on it, and apparently, it’s already in the hands of developers.
This information comes from Coreteks over on youtube, who.. Let’s say has a wavy track record in terms of leaks, but still delivered on some occasion when it came to timelines and such. He was warned in advance of things like the launch and release date of the RX 6700 series and the delays accompanying the 6700 non XT.
Anyways, in this video, coreteks outlines some information from the leaker. Here it IS. AMD’s FSR, the DLSS competitor is already in dev’s hands. It also won’t require training from a GAN pre deployment. That means it won’t need any training per game like DLSS 1.0 had to have.

Let’s get started with AMD. a few weeks ago, leaks on Navi 2X blew up on reddit. The information came from AMD’s own firmware and featured a frequency table for Navi 21 A 21 B and Navi 22. To recap, Navi 21 had a max clock of 2200Mhz and Navi 22 up to 2500 Mhz which is insane.
Now AMD caught on to where the information leaked out and basically scrapped it for future updates of the firmware. This means, no more leaks from that source, BUT another piece of information we can gather from this leak is that this was the first revision of the frequency table which means they were not the final clocks. So what now? Well, it looks like AMD might have pushed things even further for Navi 21 since more leaks have been popping out. First, let’s identify the GPUs. If you remember, Rogame over on Twitter found that Navi 21 has 4 variants. Navi 21 XTX, XT, XL and XE. Well, the Twitter leaker is now coming back with more information on the top-end cards, The XT and XL.
According to rogame, the XT model would feature a base clock of 1450 to 1500Mhz, a game clock of 2 to 2.1 GHz and a boost clock of 2.2 to 2.4Ghz. All in all, that’s about up to 200Mhz higher when compared to the first revision of the frequency table made by AMD. Going down to the XL model, the base clock would be 1350 to 1400Mhz, the game clock at 1800 to 1900 Mhz, and the boost clock at around 2100Mhz.

Today in the news, Nvidia Copies AMD, and the RX 7600 looks a little more promising than I thought.
After AMD partnered up with Samsung in 2019 for their graphics IP, we had to wait 3 years for the results. The Exynoss 2200 was born with RDNA graphics, but it was nothing groundbreaking. Now, Nvidia is looking to push their IP's too, but this time with MediaTek. Who knows, something great might be there.
Next up, the RX 7600, After their high end 7900 XT and 7900 XTX models, AMD is skipping all the way down to their 7600 series. The RX 7600 series release date, price, and relative performance are the subject of today's video. The price might be better than you expected as it reflects prices we haven't seen since 2019. The RX 7600 might be a hit with those specs!

My expectations varied quite a lot during the last few months. One thing that I had mentionned a few months ago was that AMD did not need a 16 core part even though it was something I wanted. I thought that if the single core performance was good enough to beat its competition, AMD could stick to a 12 core CPU as their flagship and keep the 16 core for next years lineup or just as a surprise to compete with whatever Intel might come up with. Well, it looks like this is kind of what AMD did although stick to the end for some more information about that . They unveiled their 3rd gen 7nm Ryzen CPU’s and here are the details.
First with the Zen 2 core, AMD managed to get a 15% IPC improvement, With double the cache and 2x the floating point performance, that is pretty amazing. They then showed us their new line OF CPU’s, First with the Ryzen 7 we have the R7 3700X, this CPU will have 8 cores and 16 threads. Have a base clock of 3.6 Ghz and a boost of 4.4ghz. This in itself is pretty dissapointing since clocks have definitely not improved as much as we though but thanks to the incredible 15% IPC uplift and the 18% improvement in multi thread workloads, This CPU absolutely destroyed the 9700K from intel. That CPU completed the cinebench R20 benchmark 33% faster than the 9700k. Impressive but its a little weird that we haven’t seen it pitted against the 9900k. At least the price is definitely appealing at a low 329 for this 8 core cpu. The 9700K averages at 400US or 500Canadian dollars. This is a no brainer at that price.

Let’s get started with the green team ! with the super lineup almost completely out, we saw quite the performance increase with the 2060 and 2070 super. Both cards received a nice bump of 256 Cuda core with the 2060 super getting an extra 2gb of memory. That resulted in something around a 15% increase in performance for both cards. But if we compare the 2080 with its super variant, it only got an increase of 128 Cuda cores. It did however also get a bump in memory speeds. So how does that translate?
Well, A leaked final fantasy 15 Benchmark shows that the 2080 Super gets a performance boost of only 7 and a half percent over the regular 2080. That’s a long way from the 15% improvement which the 2070 super actually achieves over the regular 2070. I know I’ve said multiple times that final fantasy 15 isn’t a benchmark we shouldn’t look at but that is only when comparing AMD to Nvidia, in this case, its a perfect tool to compare both cards.
This brings up a point about Value because some will say that Sure, its only 7.5% but its free performance since you’re paying the same thing as a 2080. I would argue otherwise though. This Super bracket is going to push back the release of the next-gen GPU’s by quite a bit. I wouldn’t be surprised if we don't see another Nvidia generation until Q3 next year so yes, you’re getting 7.5% more for the same price but I don't think the value completely there. If it was me, I would snag a 2080 once those go on sale like the 2070. Or just go for a Navi GPU if bang for your buck is what you’re looking for. What do you guys think?

Let’s get started with intel. The company is in a bit of a rut right now, not financially, I mean intel is flush with cash, but with their everlasting stint in the 14-nanometer club, their image and future seem to be hurting. It looks like intel needs a plan, and they do have one. For the next 10 years. That’s if they actually can respect it.
anyways, intel used to follow their Tick Tock 2-year production model. And it was quite effective. One year, the tock would receive a microarchitecture change, and the next, the tick, which would receive a process node shrink. In 2016, intel doomed tick-tock unsustainable for the future and came out with a new model for CPU production called, PAO. Or process architecture Optimization. No one calls it pao btw except me.
So PAO started with the Haswell architecture more precisely with Broadwell at 14nm’s as a node shrink or “Process”. Then we had an architectural change with Skylake. And then the optimization stage with kaby lake, but then again with kaby lake R,and then again with coffee lake, I mean you know the story. Essentially, Intel wasn’t really able to keep up with PAO either.
But what is crazy is that their new plan looks very inspired by tick-tock with a 2 to 2 and a half year cycle to drop down a process node. Let’s take a look at it.
First of all, I just want to say that this specific slide has been altered by the ASML. The original one, this one, doesn’t have the numbers for the process as you can see here So it could be 6nm instead of 5 or 4 instead of 3, etc, etc. What counts is the overall plan. So, looking at it, you can see that intel expects each node to have 3 stages and that a new node would launch along with the 3rd stage. Another interesting thing is the backport opportunity. We don’t actually know what it is exactly, but it could be similar to what has been rumored for Rocket lake cpu’s in 2021. Taking a design for a cpu that is new, but use it on a larger process. Rocket lake on the desktop is rumored to have the design of the 10nm tiger lake with some tweaking but at 14nm’s.
