THE COFFEE SHOP FROM HEAVEN
Christina Hall writes,
D. and T. met in 2007.
They had both been in unhappy relationships before that, but, at this moment in time, they were both unattached, so their happiness wasn’t built on someone else’s unhappiness.
D. was leaving a room she had been renting in a share house in Melbourne, and T. was the one who came to replace her… they were ships that almost passed in the night… but God wasn’t going to let that happen!
They met around the time that I was going to be baptised.
I had been away from the church and the Bible for 40 years, but the evidence of God’s presence in my life, during that time, was as subtle as a sledgehammer!
I couldn’t deny, any longer, that Jesus had drawn me with His cords of love and I couldn’t wait to tell the world.
So, D. came to my baptism, all radiant and in love, and with her arms full of beautiful Waratahs for me ( Waratah - Wikipedia ). “Waratah-Flowers” www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezjvz4wS2A0
She and T. had so much in common. They were both involved in the performing arts,
and a year later they were married in a very romantic ceremony in The Tambourine Mountain, Queensland.
We were shocked when they told us that they were going to move to the country, as we thought they were ‘city people’.
They had fallen in love with a miner’s cottage in a small country town. The cottage had been built in the early 1850’s, when gold was discovered in that area.
It had remained relatively untouched, except for the addition of water and electricity, and a kitchen and bathroom, in the 1950’s.
The cottage had been on the market for a long time, and no one else seemed to see what D. and T. saw in it.
We were happy for them, but we did worry that, if the time came when they wanted to sell it, it might not be easy finding a buyer.
Ten years went by and slowly the novelty of the place began to wear off…for both of them.
Also, they were thinking it might be nice to own a coffee shop… a place where adults could come and have a meal, sit and talk, or read,
while children would be happily entertained by different activities.
They began looking around for a suitable property, each doing their own research.
Finally, T. found a place he liked. D. had also found something she thought would be worth looking at.
When they compared notes, they discovered that they both had found the same place!
When they went to see the property, they were very excited, as it could easily be transformed into the coffee shop of their dreams!
They made an offer (and I have to pause here to give thanks to our Almighty God!).
The current owners liked D. and T. and they really approved of their plans for the shop.
They said they would hold it for them, no matter how many other offers they received…
but, of course, there was a deadline… they had to get on with their lives, too.
Now, D. and T. had to sell the cottage, if they were to finance the new property.
As we suspected, no one was as enthusiastic about it as D. and T. had been, ten years ago. Many came to see it but no one made an offer.
Time was slipping away; the deadline was getting closer and closer.
It was a very stressful time for all of us and I should have known better…
I knew that God would allow what was best for them…
but they had their hearts set on the place and the current owners wanted them to have it.
Would they sell it (their country cottage), at all, and if they did, would they get the amount of money they needed?
T. later recalled, “It came right down to the wire!” At the last moment, a wonderful woman came through for them…
she paid the amount they were asking… enough to pay for the new property with a nice little nest egg left over! “
Hallelujah! Thank God! And why? Because He is good, because His love lasts!
But, who on earth can do it - declaim God’s mighty acts, broadcast all His praises!” Psalm 106:1-2 (MSG).
