BGVP DM7Disclaimer: Begin Audio sent the DM7 to me for the purposes of this review and the facsimiles I personally publish around the internet. Many thanks, Begin. Inside, the DM7 sports six Knowles balanced armature drivers per side. It’s also crazy sensitive. And it goes for 299$. You can find out all about the DM7 here: https://beginaudio.com/products/bgvp-dm7.
Hit up Begin Audio, here: https://beginaudio.com/BGVP’s DM6 was lotsa good, but not full of everything that Nathan Wright craved. The sort of thing Nathan Wright craved was spacier, had a brighter upper mid range, and bristled with gobs of stereo detail in every frequency band.Â
What Nathan craved was the DM7. It is fortuitous that, thanks to Begin Audio, he got ahold of one mere weeks after reviewing the DM6. If you want to see my longer-form review, check it out at Headfonics.Â
BGVP:Until very recently, I knew next to nothing about BGVP (I find it easier to read it BigVip). The company straddle the borders of Chi-Fi and Hi-Fi, but it is both more brand and market aware than the former, and comes to market with sound qualities and packed-in tech atypical to their price points. Atypical of much of Chi-Fi, BGVP are intent on brand development. The BGVP nomenclature is worse than SARS (and I was in Toronto in 2003), and is something I hope never to have to utter in a video. (Too late for that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khAfHCcXy50) Nevertheless, the list of BGVP FOTMs is piling up and the DM7 is destined for to find a good niche among them. It packs all the good of the DM6 but suffers none of its meh. As such, it is the BGVP tailor-made for moi.Â

Repost: This is the current most popular upload on my YouTube channel. Tell me what you think. Late October 2017 I purchased the Voigtländer VM 40mm F/1,2 Nokton Apherical for Leica M. It's not a lens I love, but it's one worth talking about and showing pictures of and those taken with it. Herein I show examples of bokeh, sharpness, colour, flare, and more. I'm not a professional lens reviewer, so take it all with a grain of salt. I hope it's helpful.
Leica Rumors kindly published a truncated version of the review I wrote for my blog. Both can be found below.

***Disclaimer: Yongnuo sent this lens to me in return for an endless barrage of videos and articles, which I intend to see light at Leica Rumors, Fuji Rumors, ohm-image.net, and more.***
This is Yongnuo's latest, a 60mm macro (1:1) lens for Canon EF systems. And this video is its unboxing and slaving to a Leica SL via Novoflex's SL/EOS active adapter. The sample photos at the end are of JVC's HA-FD01 dual-diaphragm earphone of godlike engineering.
If you're keen on wondering why I attach this lens to a Leica SL, the following video series should give you an idea:

Disclaimer: Cayin Japan kindly loaned me the N6MKII for the purposes of this review, an RMAA article, and more.
I’ve had the N6MKII since late October last year. In quick succession I tore apart its boxes and took a handful of purdy photos of it. But software problems (my end, not Cayin’s), kept me from doing much testing. (Apologies to both Cayin and to those next in the review queue.) Those issues are long gone.
Despite the delays, I am readay to say what I was ready to say from day one: that the N6MKII is beautifully made, nicely branded, but not for me. I say this not because it is too big; I say this because it is too complicated; I say this because its battery life is poor. I say this because I’m a mid-range guy and the N6MKII obviously aims higher than that.
Not sound
The N6MKII’s biggest problem is lithium-ic. Even when shut off, its battery drains in less than a week. Playing back music, its battery drains in (less lthan fifteen hours), but add browsing, fiddling with various controls, and album swapping, and that number quickly dips below ten hours. Considering its power, that isn’t bad. Typically, however, the DAPs and other audio gear I use, can, under the most demanding use, keep up a steady fifteen hours. To be fair, many TOTL DAPs similarly fare, but to be fairer, getting through a modern work day and the commute home on a single charge should be par. My most used audio devices are MD recorders, none of which gets worse than 15 hours of battery playback, some of which get more than 20. And then there are my Cowon Plenue DAPs, each running for more than a day. Even Onkyo’s DP-S1 gets at least twenty hours.

At 250$, Audio Technica’s AT899 is much more expensive, but after listening back to back, I got to say that in this instance, the 210$ price difference may well be worth it over the 40$ CVM-V020. Better build (not shown in this video), better sound, way less noise, and way more money.
I imagine no one is vacillating between these two, but in case I’m wrong, here you are.

The first player-only MD unit to catch my eye, Sharp's MD-DS8, tested the limits of tolerance I have for be lied to. I bought it, liked it, and subsequently fell out of love with Sharp's marketing, and the greater body of apology built around it. Despite that, I never abandoned Sharp's portable Auvi 1-Bit Minidisc catalogue, and went on to purchase and use five separate units.
These are my words about the MD-DS8/9. They are not good words. They are not wholly bad. It is, however, obvious that I'm not happy with the player.

I dabble in carpentry, woodworking, and gringo Mexican food. This scrap-wood joinery-only tortilla press may not be pretty, but it does the job. It is also Mark Uno. Mark Dos will come soon.
