Power Diode Introduction - Ideal device characteristics
This video starts the topic of power diode. Power diode is the first device in power electronics. This lecture marks the start of power devices as we have completed the introduction of the course and necessary background of electronics to initiate this study on power devices. This study of power devices requires no pre-requisites you can follow it without studying anything else as it is self sufficient. The discussion starts with characteristics of an ideal power device. What are basic characteristics that a device must have to perform as an ideal device. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQmeW0KVMHA

PN junction is the most basic functional unit in electronics. A thorough understanding of it, will help in developing solid foundations of concept for electronics. When the forward bias is applied on PN junction, that means Anode terminal is at higher potential than the cathode terminal. The device is said to be in forward bias. With introduction of charge from battery, holes will introduced in p-side and electrons will be introduced in n-side. Due to inclusion of this charge, the stored charge in the depletion region will be neutralized and the potential barrier will be removed which is due to equilibrium. As a result, of two types of currents will flow in the device: Drift and Diffusion. Majority carriers will mainly flow in the forward bias.
