A recent Facebook conversation brought up a topic that warranted exploration. He asked me if I had made any videos about my migration planning before I came to Thailand. I realised then that I haven't really given it much thought once I started with my public videos 2 years ago.
Anyway, again we are out looking to get a few things for Chanya's Hair Salon so while we were wandering around, I did my best to recall the thought processes. I may explore this in more depth at some point as there really is a lot to think about. It really isn't something the faint-hearted folk should attempt if they aren't capable of taking ownership of their life and finances.

I chose early retirement over working the 40 40 40 plan and now I'm living stress-free as an Aussie expat living in Thailand with my Thai girlfriend. Our Video Blog covers the typical things we find ourselves doing as we build our life together living in the suburbs of Bangkok. My fiancée is a post-op ladyboy and we have been together since 2009. I finally moved to Thailand in September 2016 because the 8 years of travelling to see her were taking its toll. We hope we will give you a unique perspective on Thailand life and lifestyle as we go about our daily life and sometimes explore the Land of Smiles. Sometimes you can be surprised by what happens in Thailand. Arriving late for an appointment in Australia was always considered bad form, but in Thailand, it is the normal process and you should get used to it. Then there is the exception to the Thai way where they ring you and tell you they will be early and that can surprise you. We opened the house for the installers 30 minutes before they were expected to arrive and we sat around for 7 hours while they did their work. It was a long day, but we now have 3 working air-conditioners so we can cool off while other things are done before we move in.

Thailand's vibrant custom car and bike culture is a hidden gem that often goes unnoticed in international circles. Having attended several of these expos, I can attest to their high entertainment value and the nostalgic memories they evoke of my younger days spent building custom vehicles. Marriage in my late 20s meant the end of the endless stream of repair and modification bills, but my passion for the craft remains. It's truly inspiring to see the artistry and dedication that go into these incredible creations. If you ever find yourself in Bangkok during one of these expos, I highly recommend making a detour to experience it firsthand.

I chose early retirement over working the 40 40 40 plan and now I'm living stress-free as an Aussie expat living in Thailand with my Thai girlfriend.
