Time to check this cool little MS-DOS computer from 1983. It may run MS-DOS, but it's not IBM PC compatible. This machine has some faults which I have to find and repair. Let's get right to it!
Extra info from HP.com: The HP-150 was introduced with twin 3-1/2 inch HP 9121 disc drives—the first commercially available 3-1/2 inch floppy-disk drives in the United States. These drives were less expensive, more reliable and held the same amount of information as the 5-1/4 inch IBM-compatible drives.
I found a free 19" Dell M992 CRT monitor on Craigslist the other day. The poor monitor is rather beat up and was filthy when I got it. I think I have nursed it back to health, but we shall see. It is made by Samsung for Dell in 2002.
Warning: Never remove the cover of a CRT unless you are trained to do so. The high voltages inside a CRT can kill you.
Sorry for glitches in the video near the end! Happens on my Samsung Galaxy S7 sometimes after pausing and resuming the recording.
------------
Update: Nov 17 2016, the cleaning appears to have fixed the arcing issue. On the other hand, after using this monitor to do some work, I have deemed the CRT itself is too worn out. The picture is soft and the max white level is too low to use. I'll be taking the monitor to an e-waste collection facility.

The Macintosh Centris 610 is a humble machine that was in the mid-range of Apple Macintosh computers when it was released in 1993. With only a few dollars in parts (or free if you have them lying around) you can improve this computer's performance by a whopping 42%.
The mods done here were developed by Guy Kuo and Eckart Hasselbrink back in 1993 and 1994.

The phone goes through fits -- where pushing in the downward motion on the joystick doesn't register. You can hear the joystick physically clicking, but it often doesn't register they down in the phone's OS.
If I push hard enough in the downward motion on the joystick, it usually works, but its very annoying when texting because on this phone you must push down to select the next word for T9.
All other directions work perfectly on this joystick.
Spraying compressed air into the joystick seems to help for, but only for a short time. If you google for K790 or K800 joystick problems you can find other people having this problem with this phone. People say the problem lies in the fact dust gets trapped inside the joystick, causing this problem. The strange thing is the problem is always with the "down" direction.
I've already sent the phone in for repair once but they did nothing but upgrade the firmware, which changed nothing with regards to the joystick. I wish this had happened within the first 30 days of owning the phone so I could have just returned it, but the problem started happening around 45 days into owning the phone.
This joystick is the same as on the K800i, K800a and K790i.

This Fluke 10 was given to me. It was in rough shape but it did read properly.... It seems to have given up the ghost in a bad way so it is time for a stress test.
If you are curious about the holes there -- turns out the Fluke 10 can actually operate as a Fluke 12 -- I think I just had to add a jumper to change the mode. Those two buttons were not exposed but the buttons existed under the case so I made some holes.

The (in)famous IBM Personal Computer/AT Model 5170 was released in 1984. The 5150 may have kicked off the PC revolution and setup the architecture still in use today, the 5170 is the machine that really established what we use today. (With its 16 bit extensions to the architecture.) In this video, I took a look at this rescued machine and see if it even works, then go through and test out all the internal adapter cards. That happens with a little bang!
