Online shopping and using online business services like Uber or Skip The Dishes has of course been gaining momentum for years and years. But after 2020, online has totally exploded, right? It's like, in 2020 we crested the top of the big roller coaster hill, right?
Now, with all the rapid changes we've seen, there's no going back is there? And you know firsthand yourself why shopping online is so much better -- convenience, price comparing, speed, and so on.
In fact just recently I found myself in Canada's largest book retailer, Indigo with about an hour to kill. First off, I had to make myself look busy because, during the 2020 lockdowns they don't want people browsing, right? So I had to make myself look like an eager shopper!
And you know, any book I found that looked interesting, I knew I could find cheaper online. One art book I found, for instance, was priced at $60...but I was able to find the same book on my phone, right in the middle of this physical retailer, for $20.
So as far as I can tell, the only benefit to traditional brick and mortar businesses is 1) The shopping experience...which doesn't really exist post-2020 does it? 2) Being able to physically handle products you'd like to buy, and 3) Taking your purchase home with you that same day.
So why is any of this important to us small business owners? It's VERY important. The trend is clear: Online is bigger than ever and will only grow bigger and bigger. Here's something to ponder: Did you know that only about HALF the world's population is online?
There's still another 4.5-odd billion people who'll be coming online in the coming decade. That's insane...and we've only just begun seeing how the internet is reshaping how we do business, how we shop, how our kids learn, and much, much more.
So for us business-minded types, online is definitely the way to go. And the great

One thing that online business owners get hung up on is how often they should email their mailing list. And specifically, the hang up is worrying about emailing your list too often. I used to be worried about this too.
I didn't want to pester or bother people or fill their inbox up with email that they didn't want. This has online business owners sheepishly emailing their list once every few weeks, once a month, or even less frequently.
But in hoping to not be a pest or a bother, this infrequency actually creates a huge problem -- and it's a problem I KNOW you've experienced: One day, you get an email out of the blue from a business or online creator or whoever, and you're going...
..."Who IS this person? Why are they spamming me? I didn't sign up for this junk!" ...and then you look down at the bottom of the email and it says something like, "You're receiving this email because you signed up for such-and-such newsletter."
Oh...I guess we DID sign up for it! But it was so long ago, and they email so infrequently, and life's so hectic and busy...that we completely forgot that we'd opted-in, right?
So here's the truth about emailing and about email frequency and how often you should email: The truth is, while it IS possible to mess everything up by NOT emailing often enough...it isn't possible to mess up by emailing your list too often.

One of the many big benefits of using SEO to promote your online business and build an audience around your website and your work is this: All of this is about getting free, pre-qualified traffic pouring into your website and business day after day, month after month, for years and years!
It's about not having to rely on expensive online ads to bring leads into your website but instead to take full control of your online marketing efforts. And so while you might be thinking that this stuff is too technical or too hard it really isn't.
Yes, there are some important concepts to understand In fact, if you use a lot of the tools and techniques I recommend for you then in just a short while, you'll be wondering what had you so hung up!
Yet at the same time, something that comes up is that getting your website found in Google can seem like some kind of Dark Art or Voodoo Magic, right? But here's the good news (and what SEO "guru experts" don't want you to know):
Google tells us exactly what we need to do to rank our websites, web pages, and product offers. So, we have a clear set of guidelines to follow...steps that come directly from Google. Other times, lots of people think SEO's way too competitive and that it isn't worthwhile to learn anymore.
After all, what do we hear about endlessly these days? Social media! Like, "Here's Why You're Missing Out On LinkedIn!" or "Here's 87 Ways To Get More Twitter Followers!" and "7 Reasons Why You're Losing Without Facebook...You Won't Believe #9!"...wait. What?!
It's a buncha nonsense! ...and I say this from experience. I'm hardly on any of these platforms anymore. In fact a few years ago, Facebook changed their policies towards small business owners -- they are NO LONGER friendly to hard working business owners and website owners like you and I.

how to secure wordpress website
Here's three super-easy things you can do that go a long, long way to ensuring that your website and your online business are safe and secure.
First, it's very important to make sure your website's always up to date. This means keeping WordPress up to date when new versions, fixes, and updates come along.
The good news here is that many web hosts (like the ones I recommend) update WordPress for you when new versions are released. This ensures that any security holes or common exploits are plugged and your site's safe.
But keeping your site updated also means keeping your theme and any plugins your site uses updated too. Just like WordPress itself, whenever new versions of your themes and plugins come along, oftentimes known problems or potential holes get patched, improving your site's security and safety.
Next, and this really shouldn't need to be said -- but it does! -- and that is, to use strong passwords for everything related to your website...including your login info, your FTP accounts, email...everything! And, don't use the same username and passwords for each...make sure to use unique, strong passwords for everything.
Next, be sure to back up your website on a regular basis. How often you back up your site really depends on how frequently you update things...but I'd suggest to back up your website on a monthly basis at a minimum. For myself, I'm pulling daily backups.
