Donald Trump...well, he's insufferable. Here he is enjoying the American Flag a bit too much. Music by Rockabilly legend Rockin' Ritchie Ray. (Rich Bruland) This song was actually somewhat of a Dr. Demento hit back in the day. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6Y94XEaPvE
This is the first time I have biked in a Ciclovia-type event. This is the first of hopefully many Open Streets events in Santa Barbara, and I went up on the Amtrak Surfliner with my bike to participate. I hit a PR for speed during the event... a little over 5 minutes for one of the miles. This on a Beach Cruiser. This was also the first time my Beach Cruiser has been in its natural habitat...at the beach!
This was lots of fun. I intend to do a lot more riding in the future because it's less strain on my plantar fascia in my left foot. Biking is fun, it's good exercise, and it's simple. If you don't have a bike, they're easy and inexpensive to get from a garage sale or from a bike cooperative in your town. Great way to get around too! Otagenki!
Tech info: shot with a Sony Action Cam HDR-AS10, shot at 720p/30fps, SteadyShot ON. Edited in Final Cut Pro 7.0.3.

This is sort of a pilot for the Linux Inside series. The cut was originally made for a shorts competition that limited running time to 3 minutes in length. I will be re-cutting this for the series, as this cut leaves out a lot of interesting stuff.

Editor's Sync Guide was a forerunner to Timecode. It was completely analog, and dubbed manually to a 2" Quad Video Tape. The engineers of NBC came up with this to allow for editing videotape directly. It was also audible. NBC used it from 1959 to 1968, when the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) came up with Timecode and made editing a little easier.
The ESG audio sounded very interesting to me...kind of brought to mind a duet by HAL and the Ship's Computer on Star Trek: The Original Series. So I found a partial clip online and threw it into Garage Band. A loop here, a loop there, and bam! I think I made it funky in a very plastic way. Yes, DJ Fen-Phen is me. I wrote this song. In Garage Band.

Like the other two Otagenki Reports, this tells its tale visually. Eventually there might be an Otagenki Report with narration or even instruction, but I like the fact that I don't have a language barrier here. Anyone, from anywhere in the world, can dig on this.
CICLE, Valley Bikery, the CSUN Bike Collective and a whole bunch of enthusiastic riders went on a ride around Northridge, CA to sample pastry and work the pastry off at the same time. This was a 10 mile course, completed in about an hour and a half.
This is the first time I set up my Sony ActionCam on a mount on the "trunk" of my bike. The results were eye-popping. The ActionCam has Sony's famous "SteadyShot" technology already built in, but the combination of SteadyShot plus a more stable platform than my helmet made for super-smooth road action, albeit pointed out into the pack rather than specifically capturing my point-of-view. I think I will use my ActionCam this way whenever I film a ride from here on out.
If you can get the chance to go out and ride in a group ride, especially one organized by seasoned vets like CICLE, go for it. You don't have to be anywhere near an elite rider to go on a neighborhood ride like this. They are designed for noobs. Get on your bike and have a blast.

Shot on Google Pixel 6! Beautiful result.
This was at the Midnight Star launch party on the Sunset Strip, Los Angeles, CA. Yes, that is Chrystabell's unretouched, unAutoTuned voice. The backing track was pre-recorded, sort of unavoidable.
No, this song doesn't belong to me, it belongs to Chrystabell and Love Conquered Records. They reserve the rights, I just shot this during a live performance.
I went with a vertical format because it zeroes in on what's important: our beloved Chrystabell and her performance.
Much love to Chrystabell, her new label, to all my Peaks Freaks friends, to the Peaks Fam who were present, and the Peaks Fam who were there in spirit.

Because it's not over in Tohoku, we are taking to the South Bay Bike Trail to ride in solidarity with a similar ride in Japan. The 6.22 mile route will go from Dockweiler Beach to somewhere near Manhattan Beach and back. We will time this to enjoy a beautiful near-Autumnal Equinox sunset. This is not a race, this is a fun ride. Post ride party on the beach at Dockweiler.
The event will take place September 14th at 5:30pm.
