X axis vibrates when moving, ruining the print. Y axis is smooth. Mechanicals seem okay: screws tight, nothing loose, nothing wobbly.
The solution is, apply grease liberally to the rods and bearings. This reduced the vibration to nothing! I'm trying a small print now, and if that works, a 15-hour print to see how the thing holds up. But it's looking good. I would have preferred using SuperLube (PTFE grease) since that's the best stuff, but being the best stuff, nobody local stocks it. Instead, I used silicone grease.

It's been two years since I last worked on the Tangible RISC-V project, LMARV-1 (Learn Me A RISC-V version 1). I went about it wrong, and I've finally decided to do it right this time.

This is the 20th part in a series where I completely take apart -- or as much as I can, anyway -- a 1920s Monroe mechanical calculator. You can get these from eBay very easily, but most don't work well or at all. The idea is to take it apart to see how it works, then fix the broken parts and restore it to full working condition.
