Some of our beautiful little orphaned fawns. We now have 7 fawns in. We do still get calls just about EVERY single day from well meaning people that feel a fawn needs help that doesn’t Once again, i would like to remind you of the signs of a fawn in distress:
1. They will be up, walking in circles and screaming, crying, and bleating for HOURS (not just a few minutes) on end - this is them trying to call for their mother.
2. The tips of their ears will be curled and look shrunken or deformed.
3. Standing over, or laying DIRECTLY next to a dead doe. (Check doe for milk if you can, another sure sign).
Otherwise - PLEASE leave them alone. A fawn laying quietly is not “lethargic”, they are taught to stay still and quiet until mom comes back. Mothers do NOT stay with their fawns. They ONLY come once or twice in a 24 hours period, and USUALLY after dark. So a fawn alone is NOT a sign of a fawn in need. Please keep animals and children away from them. Mom usually moves them every 1-3 days.

Now he gets a carrot. I can't stand it. It's just as cute as the broccoli. These two will be released soon. Since one is younger than the other, we are holding the older one a little longer than necessary so that they can be released together. We do set up a feeding station and continue to let them come and go in their old habitat until they gradually move out and off on their own. So we don't just kick them to the curb! We always try to do a gradual release with all animals so they can leave at their own pace.

They are so gleeful! Racing around, stretching their legs. They love it out there! So glad they are finally big enough to go out - and yes, all five are out there!

Jenny (Syrian brown bear) and Frankie (black bear), playing in the yard. All the bears have been bulking up for winter. A question we get a LOT (a REAL LOT!!!) this time of year is "Do the bears hibernate?". The answer is that bears in captivity do not truly hibernate. They do slow down a great deal and each MUCH less...but they still get up each day and usually go outside for a bit.
