#Trump #Covid #MainstreamMediaBias A video uploaded by NBC News on YouTube 10/2/2020 has a sampling of people in Las Vegas reacting to President Trump's Covid-19 diagnosis. The description reads, "NBC News’ Vaughn Hillyard asks several people in Las Vegas about their initial reaction to President Trump testing positive for the coronavirus." It's in the MOS format (Man On Street) that's often used by mainstream newsrooms to get reaction on big events, but offers little to no actual information on important topics such as President Trump's diagnosis or what this will mean for the election. As a former TV news reporter, I can attest that this is one of (if not *the*) laziest forms of journalism. Additionally, all of the people in the NBC video were obviously biased against the President. Why do reporters wonder why people distrust mainstream media and go to YouTube instead? I compare it to YouTuber, Andrew of DON'T WALK, RUN! PRODUCTIONS who recently did a MOS piece on Biden and Trump talking to California voters. The main difference? The YouTuber collected more variety of opinion than NBC News. I am all for holding our leaders accountable, discussing science related to Covid prevention and treatment protocols along with where Trump has failed or succeeded on these topics. What I find unhelpful is the opinion of 5 people outside a bar in Vegas.
