They said it couldn't be done. They said it shouldn't be done.
But if it actually works, is it really a stupid idea?
I had a silly idea about a lazy way to add WS2812 LEDs to an existing installation without needing to take it all down and re-installing it. But will it really work?
Welcome to my December kit build extravaganza.
For the first instalment I have 2 small kits in the same video. Both kits came from Patrick in Quebec (actually from his e-bay shop - links below)
Both were fun little kits to put together, and interesting takes on classic circuits.
The first is an interesting variant on the classic joule thief circuit.

And the second is a 555 based sine wave generator.

Elegoo sent me this Arduino Uno starter kit for review, so that's what I'm doing today.
Here's a link for anyone interested in buying the same kit: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01D8KOZF4
Or, for those of you in Canada: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01D8KOZF4
Here is the download link for the contents of the CD, if you are interested in previewing the materials they include.

Many of the modules in this kit are things that I've tinkered with in the past, here's links to some of those videos:
Ultrasonic distance sensor: https://youtu.be/5QvVdVzVK9U
Stepper motor and driver: https://youtu.be/XLzlw4YoTRE
Servo motor: https://youtu.be/3wElhDVxCc
H-bridge and other motor drivers: https://youtu.be/O-u5dWWDf_g
And here are a bunch of my other videos with arduino related projects in a convenient playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE9Um5NpNcs5u_P7cIbCNRe3nG3wy-gZ-
I noticed that Hari Wiguna did a review of the same kit a couple of weeks ago. Here's what he had to say about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiz1JnnFdyk
Disclaimer: Elegoo approached me and did send this free of charge, but they didn't tell me what to say, and didn't ask for any pre-approval of what I said in the video.
None of the links above are affiliate links. I haven't received any money from Elegoo to do this.

It's not really a robot yet.
At this point, it isn't even really a remote controlled thing.
But it's a start.
I hope this is going to be an on-going project to build something robot-like and improve my coding skills while doing it (and, really, my coding skills have nowhere to go except up).
For anyone who is interested, here's the code that I showed in the video:

Time to make that D3806 power module from the last mailbag useful.
First a quick test, then making an enclosure and doing a modification to preserve desk space while keeping the controls convenient.
If you want a closer look at the D3806 itself, here's a review that Julian Ilett did a while ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fii6G_ewdw
