Game Changer: FTC's Bold Move Frees 30 Million Workers from Non-Compete Shackles!
In a landmark decision, the FTC has effectively abolished non-compete clauses that have long restricted the mobility of around thirty million American workers across various sectors, from fast food employees to engineers. Non-compete clauses typically prevent employees from joining competitors or starting similar businesses within a specified geographic range and time period, artificially suppressing wage growth and stifling competition. This sweeping reform is set to empower workers at all income levels, enhancing their ability to seek better employment opportunities and fostering a more dynamic and fair job market.
Today, you've made a major announcement that helps millions of workers in America. Tell us what that is. Today, the FTC has finalized a rule that will eliminate the vast majority of non-compete clauses in people's contracts. A non-compete clause is a provision that basically prevents people from taking a job with a competitor or starting a competing business, usually within a particular geographic area and for a certain period of time. So, around thirty million American workers are covered by a non-compete. The incredible number of non-compete clauses for ordinary people keeps wages low. And so, we're talking about fast-food workers, security guards, nurses, engineers, journalists, veterinarians. These are really people across sectors, across income levels, so I could not work in my field for one full year within that radius.
