Do you know what it costs to wash your own car? It is easy to figure out once you find the cost of your water. I got my water cost by doing a Google search for utility rates for the city of Sunrise. My rates are roughly between 4 and 5 dollars per thousand gallons. If we use the high number that would show a cost of 0.5 cents per gallon. I ran my hose for 10 seconds and then measured the volume which was 3.34 liters or 0.334 liters per second. I then measured how many seconds of water I used to fill the wash bucket, pre-rinse the car, and do a final rinse. The number of seconds came to 113 seconds. If I multiply 113 seconds time 0.334 liters per second I get 37.7 liters which is close to 10 gallons. Each gallon of water costs half a penny so my water cost comes to 5 cents. The soap I used costs $5.24 for 1.89 Liters or 64 ounces. The cap holds about 4 ml. I measured out 4 grams per cap. I do not have the specific gravity of the soap to convert the grams of soap to ml but for the small amount of soap we are using, I just used a 1 to 1 conversion. That is not scientifically accurate but this is just to get us a rough number. I used 3 caps or 12 ml. That works out to about 3.33 cents or 8.3 cents for both soap and water. I used less soap than the recommended amount which is 1 ounce per gallon. I rounded off my costs to ten cents to make everybody happy. I washed the washrag before starting as it was on the ground. I normally never let it rest on the ground but since I was making a video I had to screw something up. Your costs are going to vary based on your water rates and how much time you spend and how dirty your car is. However, I thought this was kind of interesting based on how some people go crazy over a person washing their car as if they were running up a big water bill. It was just 5 cents for water folks.
