Today I review the budget ribbon microphone, the MXL R144. This is a figure 8 ribbon mic that is only $100, significantly cheaper than the majority of ribbon mics. It is a very dark, and warm sounding mic and pairs decently with a brighter presence boosted dynamic like an SM57.

Today I review the Audient ID4. This is a single mic pre, dual channel interface with 58dB of gain, a low noise floor, a KILLER DI input section, and just about everything that you could need. This may be my new favorite entry level interface on the market.

Today we discuss my favorite audio gear of 2021. I limit the selections to one winner and one runner up which made it very difficult, but I share my favorite microphone that I reviewed this year, my favorite audio interface I reviewed, and my favorite new production gear that I use in my studio. I would love to hear what your favorite gear of the year is.
NOTE: The paid promotion tag was selected because I received the TLM49 from Sweetwater for review, the Ethos from Earthworks for review, the iD14 from Audient for review, and the 517E Grand Pacific on loan from Taylor for use in reviews. I was not paid by any of these companies and all opinions are my own based on my own experience.

Today I review a new USB mic from Logitech the Yeti GX. This is an USB supercardioid dynamic mic with RGB lighting. The software is pretty good but has a few faults, while the sound of the microphone is bested by every other microphone I compared it against; this sounds similar to the mic on a headset.

Today I review the SMM-205, a super cheap budget microphone. This thing costs under $10 and can plug directly into your computers mic input, or a portable recorder, or an audio interface. But is this thing even worth the $8 that it costs? Can it be used for gaming, youtube, or interviews? I don't think so.

In today's Q&A episode, I answer questions about moving away from reviewing audio gear to focus on non-audio gear, removing reverb and noise from recordings made in an untreated room, microphones for ghost hunting, why I'm not a full time mic reviewer, how many mics I have, and how I'm doing.

Today I review the microphone used in the white house and on stages around the world, the Shure SM57. This thing sounds great on electric guitar, and sounds great for spoken word once you add a pop filter. It also does an excellent job at background noise rejection.
