On Monday, October 28, 2019 at 6:28 p.m., an EPD Officer was dispatched to a traffic collision. A witness to the crash stopped to see if they could render assistance to the driver involved in the collision. Within two minutes, an officer arrived and was met by the original witness to the crash as well as two other witnesses. One of the witnesses told the officer that he believed that the driver of the vehicle appeared to be under the influence of some substance. Officer approached the wrecked vehicle and found the driver, who has been identified as 45 year-old Terry Wayne Chanley. Chanley was sitting in the vehicle with his door open and appeared to be intoxicated by his appearance and mannerisms. Officer asked Chanley for his driver`s license and registration and he just shook his head and began reaching underneath his seat. Chanley was given verbal commands to stop reaching for items, which he ignored. Because Chanley continued to reach for items in a suspicious manner disregarding the officer’s orders, the officer backed away in order to give him some distance from Chanley and drew his weapon.
The officer continued to shout commands, telling Chanley to show his hands. Chanley then grabbed an object appeared to be black, pointed it at the officer and began to move toward him in an aggressive manner. 'At this point, the officer believing that Chanley was armed with a gun and posed an immediate threat to himself and the witnesses that were behind the officer fired his handgun at Chanley'. Officer began to back away from Chanley while still issuing commands and 'Chanley continued to advance on the officer in an aggressive manner. Fearing for his own safety and the safety of the witnesses', officer fired at Chanley again. Chanley still continued to advance on the officer fired a third and final time in order to stop the immediate threat to his life. The EPD believe that the 'officer acted and performed his duties in a legal, justified, and reasonable manner, taking action to protect members of the public as well as himself from serious injury or harm'.
After the shooting, the officer said Chanley was holding a black object the officer thought was a gun. Police released a picture showing a black hammer laying on the ground. "At the beginning it was just like any other crash investigation," said Sgt. Jason Cullum, the police spokesman. "We don't know why he (Chanley) acted as he did. The officer took actions as he was trained to do." The Vanderburgh County coroner's office says Chanley died from a single gunshot to the chest. The name of the officer involved in the shooting hasn't been released. Cullum says the officer remains on paid leave, adding he is also meeting with a mental health counselor.

This, after Stow P.D. was called to Meadowbrook Blvd. on Sept. 3 for a suspicious male knocking on a door, asking for cigarettes and to call his daughter. Stow P.D. Patrol Officer Robert Molody arrived on scene and transported William Porubsky, also known as “Billy” to Akron's Haven of Rest - because he didn’t want to go back to a female friend’s home in Ravenna. Outside of Haven of Rest, Porubsky refused to exit the vehicle. Body camera video released Thursday afternoon shows Patrol Officer Robert Molody attempting to get Porubsky to exit his Stow Police vehicle, and walk into the Haven of Rest facility. Porubsky refused, arguing that he was not at the right place, at Haven of Rest.
Officer Molody requested assistance from Akron Police. Several moments went by before Officer Molody pulled his stun gun and pointed it at Porubsky while waiting for Akron Police to arrive. Porubsky continued refusing compliance with Officer Molody's orders to either go sit on the curb, or walk with him over to the facility’s door. William Porubsky then attempts to steal Officer Molody's police vehicle. The driver’s door was locked. Porubsky then attempted to grab the officer’s stun gun , and was stunned in return. Pasco County, Florida — On Wednesday June 17, Pasco Sheriff's Office deputies responded to Auto Zone in reference to an unwanted guest complaint where a subject was reportedly entering and exiting the store frequently. The subject was at first very cooperative, as seen in the video, with the first deputy. However, as the subject again attempted to enter Auto Zone, another deputy reiterated the first deputy's conversation with the subject that, while he was not under arrest and free to leave, he could not go back into Auto Zone.
During this conversation, the subject suddenly became violent, aggressively attacking and knocking the deputy to the ground and continuing to attack the deputy by punching them multiple times before the Auto Zone manager and additional deputies were able to stop and subdue the suspect. The Sheriff's Office has not identify the other deputy pursuant to Florida's Marsy's Law as the deputy is the victim of a crime.

While out searching for repeat offenders Wednesday evening, Detective Ben Erskine encountered the three young boys playing basketball at Joe Lee Smith Park in Cocoa, Florida. Detective Erskine began talking with the boys when three other officers arrived. The encounter then turned into a 5-6 minute game of 3-on-3 basketball with Detective Erskine, Detective Anthony Colombo, Officer George Menendez and Officer Amanda Torello who was the “odd man out.” Officer Menendez made sure his bodycam was capturing the moment in hopes the NBA took notice. “Those kids can sure play ball,” said a Cocoa Police spokesperson. “Of course, they won the game, but it wasn’t a bad showing by the boys in blue!”, “It was a much needed break,” said Detective Erskine.

Camden County, Georgia — Newly released dashcam video shows a Camden County Sheriff’s Office deputy screaming, punching, and yanking a suspect’s hair while handcuffed. The Camden County National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is calling for the firing of a Camden County, Georgia, sheriff’s deputy.
On January 16, 2022 Deputy Christi Newman pulled over a pickup truck for failing to stop at a stop sign. During the traffic stop, the driver, Charis Faria, had a suspended license, which is when Deputy Newman asked her to step out of the vehicle. According to the report, before walking over to Charis Faria’s truck, Newman learned Faria had a non-judgment suspension.
A report stated the deputy told Faria about the suspension and said she couldn’t drive. When she asked her to step out of the truck, Faria refused. Deputy Newman called for backup and a second deputy arrived after hitting the driver’s front bumper. That’s when tempers flare and Deputy Newman can be seen in dashcam video reaching into the truck and yanking Faria to the pavement.
The deputies tase Faria and handcuff her, which is when Deputy Newman can be seen punching Faria twice and grabbing her hair. Faria was arrested and charged in the incident with obstruction of a law enforcement officer, driving with a suspended license, window tint violation and failure to obey a stop sign.
Deputy Newman was immediately given a warning and time off without pay. Deputy Newman was re-trained on the use of force and officer safety, according to CCSO. Just two months after the incident, in March, Newman was awarded ‘Deputy of the Month’. Her personnel file revealed a letter sent to the Sheriff’s Office in February that praised Deputy Newman’s actions during an incident at a local campground. She did an “incredible job de-escalating a situation,” the letter read.

North Salt Lake police have released dashboard camera video (above) showing the moment a Utah Transit Authority FrontRunner train crashed into a FedEx truck Saturday morning. According to UTA, a preliminary investigation shows the crossing gates were up and the flashing lights and bells that normally indicate a train is approaching were not active. "In the event of a power outage or lack of signal, crossing gates are programmed to default to the “down and active” position as a safety precaution.
Preliminary information indicates the gates were affected by the severe ice and snow conditions at the time and were in the default “down and active” position, as they are programmed. After an employee responded to the location, the gates moved to the up position. The agency has never had an accident like this before, and UTA is investigating why and how it happened to ensure it doesn’t occur again," UTA wrote in a statement released Tuesday. There were no serious injuries in the accident.
