Text from Part 2 - Section 1:
"Because we need to know that the end of the world never comes by chance. On the contrary, in times when the current model of exploitation becomes ineffective, capital realizes its mortality and it is this awareness of the mortality of capital that is presented to us as the end of the world."
George Caffetzis, Work, energy, crisis and the end of the world
In the dominant narrative, the coronavirus was presented as the end of the world. A dipole of health and economy was created. The states overnight became anti-capitalist by putting human lives above the profits of the bosses. No sacrifice in the economy was considered excessive in order to protect public health. The lockdowns were deemed necessary to protect us and the economy was frozen triggering a new financial crisis.
But the state narrative of coronavirus management has 2 major problems. First, as we tried to show in the first part of this project, the coronavirus does not in any way pose a risk to public health. Second and foremost, economic crises in the capitalist production system are not caused by viruses. No, the states did not become anti-capitalist overnight and did not impose lockdowns because they were moved by the dead from the virus as they are not moved by the dead from any disease but also in general. On the contrary, economic crises are the structural "disease" of capitalism. And the capital's immune system has not been able to deal with this crisis since 2008.
The treatments that have been applied to date, such as liquidity injections, have managed to alleviate some symptoms but at the same time were killing the patient. The problem was constantly being transferred to the future but at the same time it was becoming increasingly impossible to solve as unsustainable debts are constantly growing. Although the huge public debts that were loaded on the backs of the working class continued to ensure the profitability of the bosses temporarily, the state of the economies has now become dangerously unpredictable, unstable and virtually uncontrollable.
States, as representatives and guarantors of the collective interest of their national capital, manage crises on two levels. The first concerns the international competition between them with the main goal being gaining a larger share of the world market. These efforts are not limited to so-called fair competition between companies but instead are carried out by any means available, from tariffs on competing goods, sanctions and trade wars to war conflicts. The second level concerns the interior of the states. There, the main goal is to increase the exploitation of the working class and concerns measures such as reducing labor costs and increasing productivity.
At the same time, they take measures to subdue the social resistance and enforce their plans. In any case, every crisis makes more urgent the need to restructure capitalist relations of production as a whole in pursuit of a new, more effective model for the exploitation of the working class and the assurance of the threatened profitability of the bosses.
Capitalist restructuring is already underway. The infrastructure and the new technologies on which it is based already exist to a greater or lesser degree and are being developed daily. The name under which the bosses have chosen to promote it has the title “4th Industrial Revolution”. With this imposing title, the planned changes are sought to be positively received since the doctrine of science = progress has been seeded unquestionably in both left and right consciousnesses while at the same time setting the ground for the scope and radicality of the changes that the new capitalist model will bring. The 4th industrial is marketed as the making of science fiction movies. These changes are about not only the way of production but also the way in which everyday life is experienced as it has happened in every capitalist restructuring until today. A world tailored to bosses is marketed through stunning videos of driverless cars and robotic surgeons. The new technologies of the 4th Industrial are propagated as the means to a society where poverty will be eradicated, environmental pollution will be a thing of the past and the only limitation is the human imagination.
