Her name is Sandra. She auditioned for us live during our trio gig at this restaurant called 'Babushka'. We gave her three songs, and told her to show up at our gig. No rehearsal. I liked her voice. Good stage presence. Didn't just stand there staring at the ceiling while I soloed, like a lot of singers I had worked with. She was good at blues, soul and I will post some more videos with her later on. She ended up moving to Ontario where the music scene is actually alive.

I'm playing a Parker fly guitar, limited '4 seasons' edition 'Autumn', from 2008. Only 25 exist of this model. Very light at 5 lbs, very versatile tones with piezo pickups, carbon fibre body, stainless steel frets never wear out. Company is out of business.
I don't use picks. Tone variety and personality much better without one. All sounds come from fingers, thumb, and upstrokes. In spite of no pick I am still able to play fairly fast using hammer ons, pull offs, slides, left hand legato. This also allows me to play octaves easily.

Trying out my new dual fusion pedal from Wampler. Love it! Used to use a zendrive but this sounds better and has a lot more combo options, responds very well to attack dynamics and fingerstyle playing without getting into the realm of nasty distortion. The amp is fender superchamp, modded with ragin cajun speaker and Ho's special attenuator. It was set at 2 on clean channel with attenuator at 9 o clock. H2 zoom recorder five inches in front of the amp.

It's not only drunks, addicts, and mental cases I have to put up with, now it's other buskers with no manners. Kenny G and his wife, two tourists, have decided I played long enough so he sets up a few feet away from me and cranks his amp even louder. I decided to play right over him. I think people were confused. Were we working together or was it a battle of the bands? I've met all kinds of assholes out there. Addicts, thieves, mental cases, psychos, irate pedestrians, but never an asshole busker. Usually, fellow buskers are great, my calm in the storm, as we all face the same shit every day and help each other out. In 5 years I had never met another 'musician' that just barged in and took my spot without permission, while I was still playing. The norm is "How long will you play?" Then they come back at a certain time or just find another spot. This putz had come by earlier and I told him 'Another hour.' Then he comes back, lets his Rottweiler loose on me and she screams "You played long enough! We play now!"
I have even more nasty encounters with these two on video, including one where I went right up to them and confronted them. The woman was like Linda Blair in the Exorcist. She not only screamed 'fuck you' continuously and called me a bitch, she also called my wife a bitch. They never even met my wife! That's really presumptuous. They were tourists. Apparently, in their country, aggressive busking and screaming is a way of life. They continued making no money, while I was getting tipped for playing along to their elevator music. Of course, you can never get a cop when you need one. Later on this guy was shut down for being ridiculously loud. Everyone I talked to, including fellow buskers, complained about him and shared similar stories of how he would just walk in and set up while they were still playing. They liked to wave a bylaw printout around about max one hour play time that doesn't even apply to these non licensed areas. For non licensed spots, it's a courtesy program. You play, someone comes along, you tell them how long you will play, then you come back and act civil, or use another spot. Simple, effective.

I'm going to start sharing some my guitar philosophy I've learned after 48 years of playing.
Improv is easy when you have a good loop. This is a killer bass line and fun to play with. Improvisation is the most important ability you can develop as a musician. If you're not improvising, you're only copying others and there's ZERO point to that unless you are being paid very well in a cover band or orchestra, and let's face it, the chances of that are very rare these days. Music is about personal expression. It's not a competition. Developing your own style, as quickly as possible, is essential, and nothing works better than finding some music that moves you, and playing around with it like a canvas. Don't worry about mistakes, (this only adds to the flavor), stop following scales and cliche patterns, and think outside the box. Do not rehearse, ever! Stop using a pick. Nothing brings on 'your own style' faster than dropping a pick. There is reason why Mark Knopfler and Jeff Beck are easy to recognize. They do not use picks. Stop alternate picking exercises. Work on using the thumb and fingers and see how fast you can change tone by the change of pressure.
Empty your mind. Trying to remember how to play cover songs puts you at a disadvantage, as it limits your own growth. The idea is to start playing without any idea what you will play and PLAY in the moment. You can can capture some very special moments this way that you will not get with practice or planning. It's fun to create studio tracks and work out parts for a week, but that is a different process.
Put notes where they should not go. You'll be surprised what you can get out of that. Music is all about counterpoint and tension. Don't play on the one. Play on the two, or the three. Mix it up. Experiment. Let your feelings override your brain. Don't overplay. Forget about speed. No one cares. One carefully placed note is worth more than Malmsteen's entire career. Breathe. Play a few lines, take a break. Do not panic when there is space to fill. The sign of amateurs is their constant need to prove themselves by filling every bar with as many notes as possible.
I'm a bit embarrassed to put up such a wimpy 6 minute improv session but I did a series of 7 jams last night, one after another for variety, so you'll be happy to know my entire jam was almost 2 hours as usual. The rest will be posted shortly. This is part of an entire album I will be putting up on bandcamp.
