So God bless John Durham. “His investigation is taking a long time. But we’re getting to now what we all suspected.” Jordan said. “The only thing we didn’t understand was it was worse than we thought.” In May 2019. Durham was tasked by Trump’s attorney general. U.S. faces 'significant consequences' from more severe coastal flooding
The U.S. is poised to see as much of a rise in sea levels through the year 2050 as it has experienced in the past century. with additional increases through 2150. according to a comprehensive new federal report out Tuesday. Why it matters: Sea level rise is one of the most tangible present day effects from human caused climate change that is being felt in the U.S.. with coastal flood events becoming far more common and damaging in just the past few decades. Driving the news: The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released the report along with about six other federal agencies that play a role in tracking the rise in sea level. It updates figures from 2017 by taking into account the newest sea level rise projections. and breaks trends down into different time periods. Data from tide gauges. satellite instruments and the latest computer models are all incorporated. The report includes extreme water level probabilities for points along the U.S. coastline. and will be incorporated into the next National Climate Assessment. which is underway. The assessment projects an additional 10 to 12 inch increase in sea levels by 2050. with higher amounts in some parts of the country due to changes in land height and ocean currents. The East and Gulf coasts are expected to see a greater rise in sea level than the West Coast. for example. The big picture: The range of sea level rise at the global. national and regional levels has narrowed since 2017. thanks to improved measurements. a better understanding of polar ice sheets and refinements of computer modeling. The report projects the sea level rise along the contiguous U.S. coastline to be between 1 and 7 feet in 2100. compared to 2000 levels. and 2.6 to 13 feet by 2150. The range in these projections largely depends on the amount of greenhouse gas emissions and resulting warming. Threat level: The report warns that the sea level rise through 2050 will dramatically escalate the frequency and severity of coastal flooding. including so called 'sunny day' flooding at times of high tide in areas such as Charleston. S.C. and Miami. The report says that nationally. a 'flood regime shift' is projected to occur by 2050. with moderate high tide flood frequencies to increase by more than a factor of 10 nationally. along with a five fold increase in major high tide flood frequencies. It notes that 'significant consequences' are in store for coastal infrastructure. absent new efforts to reduce risk exposure. Moderate and typically damaging high tide flooding is projected to increase from an average frequency of 0.3 events per year in 2020. to 4 events per year in 2050. the report finds. And minor or nuisance high tide flooding. cur

DeBattiste said the incident began Saturday when a mother and son went up Loveland Pass. a point on a mountain located about 60 miles west of Denver. It took him 200 to 300 feet down the mountain. including off a cliff estimated to be 50 feet high. DeBattiste said. This is what is called a terrain trap. according to DeBattiste and experts at avalanche.org a situation where a gully. trees or a cliff could make the consequences of an avalanche even worse. 'You can have a transceiver. a shovel. a probe and an avalanche air bag but if you get caught in a terrain trap then none of that stuff is going to matter.' DeBattiste said. It took the mother about 10 minutes to ski down to her son. finding him stuck waist deep in snow. DeBattiste says she is unsure who called in the avalanche whether it was the woman or a witness but the SCRG crew arrived at the scene. They were joined at the foot of...

‘Trying to help you’: Pressed on rant over coverage. Mayor Adams insists media is problem
Mayor Adams got defensive Wednesday when pressed about his attack on the media a day earlier when he implied a largely white press corps has displayed bias in critical coverage of him. During a Q&A with reporters following his budget presentation. Adams was pressed about his gripes over coverage of his failed bid to get Albany leaders to make changes to the bail reform laws. which included his claim that “My story is being interpreted by people that don’t look like me.” In an exchange with a Post reporter. Adams claimed that he didn’t intend to paint the city press corps as racist. even though he’d made a point of noting a day earlier that it’s largely white. “I want you to go back and listen to what I said yesterday. and see if I use the term ‘racist’ at all.” he said when The Post asked him why he called out the press corps as “racist.” “This is exactly what I’m talking about. When you hear something comes from my mouth. you use a predisposition of your life to interpret what I say.” Adams scolded. But he didn’t explain why he chose to play the race card over seemingly innocuous coverage of what was widely expected to be a doomed bid to sway Albany. In a jab at The Post. which was the only major newspaper to endorse him for mayor in the crowded Democratic primary. Adams also took aim at its characterization of his diatribe. saying that “when I express something based on my observation. it’s called a rant.” On Tuesday. Adams started a news conference about summer jobs by angrily claiming that multiple reports about his failed effort to win support from Albany were unfairly negative. “If you want to acknowledge or not. I have been doing a darn good job and we just can’t live in this alternate reality.” he said. Adams repeatedly suggested that race played a factor in coverage of him. saying. “How many blacks are on editorial boards? How many blacks determine how these stories are being written?” He also threatened to stop fielding “off topic” questions at his news conferences if the coverage of him didn’t improve. On Wednesday. Adams claimed his motives were entirely altruistic. “I am trying to help you.” he claimed. “I want you to grow. I want you to be kinder. I want you to be emotionally intelligent. not to feel that everyone is trying to attack you.” Hizzoner also said that “there’s nothing personal I have against anyone.” “We are at a place that we have to ask ourselves: If everyone is not around the table. then are we really getting different views from everyone?” he said. “That’s what this is about. And if I’m just a black mayor. that is just going to go through the m

Judge set to dismiss Sarah Palin’s defamation case. siding with New York Times
A U.S. judge will dismiss Sarah Palin's defamation lawsuit against New York Times. although the jury is currently deliberating the case. The ruling from U.S. District Court Judge Jed Rakoff marks a major victory for the Times. after Palin’s legal team argued a 2017 editorial defamed her by unfairly linking her to the 2011 mass shooting that killed six people and wounded then Rep. Gabby Giffords. Rakoff said Palin had failed to show that the Gray Lady had acted out of malice. which is required in libel lawsuits involving politicians and other public figures. Rakoff said he will issue an order dismissing the complaint after the jury returns its verdict. The judge added that the case will inevitably be appealed and the court of appeals would benefit from knowing how the jury would decide it. which is why they will continue to deliberate. The jury will not be made aware of the judge’s order until after deliberations. An attorney for Palin did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Palin sued the Times for unspecified damages in 2017. accusing it of damaging her career as a political commentator with the editorial about gun control published after U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise. a Louisiana Republican. was wounded when a man with a history of anti GOP activity opened fire on a Congressional baseball team practice in Washington.
