Submerged Iron Mine Exploration: Venturing into Deep Waters
Snape Hill Mine, also known as Scrag Oak, was mined for iron ore for just over a year between 1857 and 1858. Although iron mining in the area had mostly been abandoned by this date, the building of a railway line from Tunbridge Wells to Hastings exposed a seam of iron ore that was obviously considered worth pursuing.
Small mines were excavated on both sides of the railway line and in (unfulfiled) anticipation of a long line of income, the local pub enterprisingly changed its name to The Miners' Arms. The mines were excavated and recorded in 2000 by members of the Kent Underground Research Group (KURG). Both mines were waterlogged and blocked with clay but hard work opened them up.
KURG found adits north and south of the railway, each about 150 metres long. Some artefacts remained including trackwork and grafitti. The entrances were secured with access for bats; it is likely that the southern mine is now once again flooded.

St. Margaret's Bay Cliff Complex
The beach at St Margaret's was seen as a possible landing place for an invasion fleet, so was well defended during the war and old photographs show barbed wire entanglements and a pillbox and this tunnel system still remains. It was also a crucial point as the powerful gun batteries were located close by, and would have been a target for sabotage. The tunnel appears to have been dug to allow guns to be placed in rooms cut into the cliff face, to cover the beach. The original entrance to this tunnel, located at the end of the esplanade, is now sealed and the only access is a rope up to the machine gun post in the cliff face. Inside, conditions are good and the majority of the tunnel is lined with tin on the roof and supported by bricks. Parts of the tunnel which are unlined still appear to be sound, although steps lead up to a second room, which has been lost due to erosion. There are a number of other caves and tunnels close by, on the Eastern side of the bay, but this is by far the most extensive.

In this exploration we're are given a location by @markurbex6579
the home reveals a treasure trove of forgotten memories and history.Walking through the front door, one immediately notices the dusty, yet well-preserved furniture scattered throughout. A faded floral armchair sits beside a worn wooden coffee table, seemingly frozen in time. The room is adorned with yellowed newspapers from decades ago, giving a glimpse into the past. A sense of nostalgia and curiosity fills the air as one wonders about the lives that once thrived within these walls. Moving further into the home, the kitchen tells its own tale. Antique appliances, once the height of modern technology, now stand as relics of a bygone era. The countertops, adorned with peeling wallpaper, bear witness to countless meals lovingly prepared. The worn-out stove, now cold and silent, holds the echoes of laughter and conversations shared over many gatherings. The bedroom, though modest in size, holds remnants of personal belongings that speak volumes about its previous occupants. A dusty bookshelf houses an array of weathered novels, whispering of adventures and escapades that once transported the reader to distant lands. A faded photograph, delicately framed, captures a moment frozen in time, reminding us of the joys and sorrows that make up a lifetime.

Kingston Prison was originally built in 1877 as a Victorian radial design prison. Kingston has had a varied history. At one point the building was used for a boys' borstal, and then became a police station during World War II.
In 1965 capital punishment for murder was abolished in Britain and, as a result, Kingston began exclusively to hold inmates serving life sentences. Kingston became the only prison in England and Wales to have a unit exclusively for elderly male prisoners serving life sentences. In April 2003 a report from Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Prisons stated that the elderly prisoner unit at Kingston provided unacceptable conditions for its inmates. The report detailed that movement in the unit was severely restricted, there was insufficient privacy and the rooms had too little natural light, poor ventilation and in some cases no power points.
Soon afterwards Kingston was redesignated as a more general category B and C prison, the elderly prisoner unit moving to HMP Norwich. From April 2012 Kingston became mainly a Category C prison, holding a high percentage of inmates serving life sentences.
On 10 January 2013 it was announced that Kingston Prison would close "in the next few months", as part of a wider prisons closure programme established by the Ministry of Justice.
The prison formally closed on 28 March 2013.[3] The former prison site was put up for sale, though there was a campaign to retain the site for use by the local community.
On 24 December 2014 it was announced that Kingston Prison along with Dorchester Prison, Gloucester Prison and Shepton Mallet Prison had been sold to City and Country. There will be a community consultation on the development of all the sites, with plans including mixed-used schemes of assisted living units alongside retail and social amenity areas.
As of today, the complex is being used to host airsoft games.

The bunker at Langdon Hole was built in late 1942 as one of the joint operation headquarters at Dover’s two underground wireless outstations. The Dover headquarters was based in the Dumpy level tunnels at Dover Castle, and Langdon Hole was thus often referred to as “Dumpy B” (“Dumpy A” was at Long Hill).
The structure looks superficially like the coastal artillery deep shelters nearby, having the same structure of vaulted steel sheeting supported by colliery hoops, but there are many differences from the access stairs to the remaining plant.
The only surviving access today is via the western entrance which included rails to allow heavy equipment to be brought in or removed, while the other entrance is blocked. Both stairs have unusual knuckle-like offsets at their bases before the bunker itself is accessed.
The complex comprises a pair of parallel longer tunnels, the rearmost one originally containing the wireless station, while the foremost was for crew accommodation and everything else. These are linked by shorter link tunnels whose function is unknown, and there are additional spurs, the largest of which contained the generator that powered the plant and lighting.
Ventilation towers with moveable eyeball-like nozzles are another unusual feature, and are only otherwise found locally in the Dumpy tunnels at Dover Castle. They are believed to have a naval origin. The size of the ductwork is much greater than at the artillery deep shelters presumably due to the need to cool temperature gains from the mechanical plant.
Other unusual features include the flat-topped vaults and block wall lining.
The rendered ceiling panels are believed to contain asbestos and as much of this has collapsed and is disturbed during access, it is strongly recommended that the site is not entered.
The National Trust are currently looking into the possibility of making this safe and opening this to the public in a similar manner to Fan Bay’s deep shelter

Bournemouth Airport currently has a billion pounds worth of aircraft parked.
More than 30 British Airways planes have parked up at Bournemouth Airport and can be seen when driving down Parley Lane.
As well as this, several Virgin Atlantic planes have also been stationed at the airport as the majority of flights around the globe are grounded due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Together with the Virgin Airbus A340’s, we probably have a billion pounds worth of aircraft newly parked up at Hurn.
“The southern taxiway is now completely turned over to parked aircraft, so incoming aircraft now has to backtrack on a live runway or take the northern taxiway back to the terminal.
“Unsurprisingly, there is a lot more security around the airport. The barrier into the north-east sector is down all the time. There are security vehicles constantly on patrol around the parked aircraft.

A spokesperson for British Airways said: “Things continue to change every day so we’re not updating on schedule changes/parking arrangements.”
A Virgin Atlantic spokesperson added: “We do indeed have three A340s parked at Bournemouth. They’ve now been retired from our fleet and will be passed onto their new owner very shortly.”
Bournemouth Airport originally opened as RAF Hurn in August 1941, during the Second World War, and was the base for many RAF units over the following three years.
After the end of the war, the airport was the hub for international flights into the UK until Heathrow opened in 1949 and many airlines moved their operations to the site just outside London.
The arrival of the BA and Virgin aircraft drew a lot of attention on social media, with aerial images taken by the National Police Air Service team based at the airport proving extremely popular.
