In this video we take a look at a TRS-80 26-3612 RS-232 interface for the PC-2. It appeared to be a NIB find but does not work. When trying to power on it has excessive current draw. The fix was accidental and surprising leading to discovering a very odd factory mod. I still have no idea what this factory mod was for.

In this video, the 2nd part of a two-part series, we take an in depth look at the software behind ‘crunching’ and playing back ‘DIGIs’, digital sound samples, on the C64. In part one we explained how DIGIs work and took at a look at a curious physics professor who revolutionized speech synthesis in the 1970s. Link to part #1: https://youtu.be/fvgkAWwSceI
In this episode we’ll take an in depth look at how the ‘Cruncher’ software, written in C#, works to take our output from Audacity, and further process it to generate the data format required to play back via the C64 SID chip. We then do a deep dive into the DIGI player code itself that runs on C64 and see what makes it tick.

In this video we take a look at the last computing device that Sir Clive Sinclair ever produced, the Z88 ‘Slab-top’. After selling the Sinclair brand name and product rights to Amstrad Sinclair set about to revive an old dream, a truly portable computer. Of course, it has the signature Sinclair traits, a Z80 processor and questionable keyboard.
We’ll dig into this Z88 and fix the dodgy keyboard membrane, inspect the rest of the innards and then and give it a wash and brush up. After bringing it back to life we’ll spend some time using it to see what sort of a machine it is for daily use.
CONTEST! At some point in this video I will imitate one of my Favorite YouTubers. I’ll copy some phrase or mannerism they are known for and if you are the first one to correctly guess and respond in the comments below you will win a small prize. The prizes will be things like a set of 10 brand new DD/DD 3.5” floppies, a C64 Case Saver Kit, a set of Amiga/C128 square DIN power connectors, etc. If you are also a subscriber, you will also win a secret bonus prize.

In this video we do a refurb in an Okidata Okimate 20 color printer for the Commodore 64. The Okimate printers were a unique type of thermal printer that could print on thermal paper or could make use of a special wax like ribbon for printing in black or color on regular paper. While it is not a speedy printer it did produce a good quality color output at a good price point for the time.
We clean the Okimate up, fix the ribbon out sensor which was broken in shipment and track down the source of the ribbon not advancing properly. We even cover a bit of BASIC programming to print text in multiple colors and explore the color printing demo/utility disk which came with the printer.

In this series we take a look at a C128 and 1571 that are a bit of a puzzle. While it is odd to find a Made in W. Germany C128 in the USA what is stranger still is that it is not a PAL computer. We’ll discover the roots of this odd pair and refurbish them in the process.
In this video we we’ll clean up the keyboard and see if we can’t take care of the jaundiced keys and case. Then we’ll give the 1571 refurb after looking into the odd 120/240V power supply.
We wrap up with a bit of information about why these machines were made from a Commodore insider and provide some clues as to what to look for to see if you have one of these unusual machines.

In this video we take a look at a ‘patch’ for the ubiquitous Alps plotter mechanism. The most common issue with these lovely plotters is cracked stepper pinion gears, we fixed that previously by installing new, custom made, brass gears. The second most common problem is a cracked hub on the paper feed ‘anti-backlash’ gear. Join us as we find a way to patch this cracked hub up so we can plot again.

Description
In this video, we look in detail at the first of the two New-In-Box Amiga 500’s we unboxed last week. Follow along with this bit of Amiga archeology and see what we uncover inside a new-in-box Amiga 500. Will it work? Can we get Tetris to run? Let’s dive in and give it a go.
The power supply is inspected, and load tested. We also crack open the A500 itself and do a visual inspection to make sure all is well before firing it up for the first time since it left the factory over 30 years ago.
We do a quick test using the built-in greyscale composite output to verify that the computer works at all. Then we plug-in the A520 video adapter and try color composite video. Both video outputs are routed through an Extron IN1502 Video Scaler and displayed using a VGA hookup.
In the next episode, we’ll see about using the Amiga’s RBG output for better picture quality and try to take care of any maintenance issues we might find during this inspection.

A short video to introduce preschool aged children to simple machines. I made this for my sister's class which she is teaching remotely because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Originally it was left as unlisted but just in case it might be of some use to others with preschool aged kids at home I decided to make it public.
