- Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi [2005]

The series was published by Namco Bandai Games under the Bandai brand in Japan and Europe, and as Atari in North America and Australia from 2005 to 2007. Atari's PAL distribution network was absorbed into Bandai Namco Partners, and Bandai Namco has also handled North America. publishing for future Dragon Ball Z games since 2010, effectively ending Atari's involvement.

- Genre: Fighting game
- Platforms: Playstation 2 and Nintendo Wii
- Launch: October 2005

- Name's origin

The “Sparking!” in the Japanese title refers to the last letter found in the chorus of the first opening theme of the Dragon Ball Z anime series, "Cha-La Head-Cha-La", although the opening theme of the first game is the second opening of the TV series, "We Gotta Power"). Despite the localized title, the series is not a continuation of the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai series. While Sparkling! Features actual music from the Dragon Ball Z anime series composed by Shunsuke Kikuchi, the US release of the first game features recycled music from the Budokai series.

- How to play

The Ki gauge can also be used to use moves known as Blast 2 abilities. Each character has a unique set of Blast 2 abilities that allow them to use special moves like Ki blasts and physical attacks. Characters also have an auto-reload number meter called the Blast Stock that allows players to use techniques called Blast 1 abilities.

Players can also enter a mode called Max Power Mode as normal, increasing their Ki beyond their total at the cost of Blast Stock Bars. One of those moves is Ultimate Blast, which is typically the most powerful move a character has, though using any Blast 2 or Ultimate Blast ability immediately ends Max Power mode.

- Game modes

In the series' story mode, the goal is to complete battles based on moments from the original manga series, as well as unique anime stories. Several levels of Tenkaichi 2's story mode also feature cutscenes that are shown before or after the level's fight. Tenkaichi 3's story mode has cutscenes built into the battles themselves that are triggered by pressing a certain button. The player can enter a World Tournament and try to win his way to the top.

There are three basic tournament levels and a Cell Games mode. There are no restrictions, but the last match in Cell Games mode is always against Perfect Cell. In Tenkaichi 1, winning tournaments awarded players a Z-Item prize, while in Tenkaichi 2, players received cash that would, in turn, be used on Z-Items. The World Tournament mode can be played with multiple participants, but if there is more than one human player, no prizes will be awarded.

The Blast Combo is the normal combo, however inserting another button into the attack will allow the player to use a burst attack for additional damage. Depending on the character's moves, the player may not be able to use this feat like Videl or Hercules. The downside of this technique is that it will quickly drain the player's energy. The player can merge characters to create a better character, but some characters cannot be merged. The player also has the opportunity to upgrade characters.
