What happens when Climate Barbie and her friend take the EV for a spin on a rural road in Alberta? Suddenly they are out of power, and even though they run out near an electrical substation, there's no fast charger nearby to help them out. Can Canada really decarbonize with electricity over night - or just by building an east-west grid as Elizabeth May and Catherine Abreu claim can be done? Is pipelining the same skill set as powerlining? Does Canada even have enough power generation on line to meet the present EV policy? NO! This is a multi-billion dollar reality check call. Belgian researchers Jean van Vliet and Brigitte van Vliet-Lanoë take a critical look at the claims that the deadly heat wave that hit the Pacific Northwest in June of 2021 was caused by human-influenced climate change - their research shows that this was the result of natural climate change related to solar activity, resulting in a Mobile Polar Anticyclone (MPA) phenomenon. The MPA theory was developed by Marcel Leroux. While the mainstream media was, and still is, expressing climate hysteria about heat waves, and climate activists are demanding the governments engage in massive economic and social changes to 'stop climate change', the work of Jean and Brigitte show how futile such efforts would be, given that natural forces are driving the extreme events. The report was originally published Aug. 27, 2021, in French: https://www.science-climat-energie.be/2021/08/27/temperatures-extremes-et-foehn-demonter-le-mythe-des-domes-de-chaleur/

Why Did You Choose This Title for Your Talk?
Robert Lyman is an energy economist. He is a former federal public servant of 27 years, diplomat for 10 years. He's concerned that the adverse effects of climate policy will become so extreme that the public will demand a U-turn in public policy on climate change and carbon taxes. Robert explains that even though many people feel they are 'saving the planet' for our children, in fact in terms of the global scope, Canada is a very small emitter - only 1.5% of global emissions. China emits 30% of the world's GHG emissions, by far the largest of any country and their emissions continue to grow. The greatest growth in emissions is in the developing world, thus nothing Canada does will reduce emissions. Your quality of life is at risk due to the current climate policies. Spending more attention on adaptation is more important for Canadians. A light-hearted kid-friendly climate tale, for the whole family. Parents and grandparents can sit with their little ones and watch this together. It's meant to stimulate conversation on climate change and the fears that some children might have about their future.
Three little rabbits loved to hop around the yard. Bobbie Bunny, Betty Bunny and Bunny Bunny were playing bunny hop one day, when suddenly Bunny Bunny started to cry...afraid of the end of the world. Afraid of climate change. Betty Bunny suggested they go and visit the Wise Rabbit to see what he had to say about climate change, and whether or not little bunnies could stop it. The Wise Rabbit welcomed the trio with fresh carrots and a friendly chat about how scientists made a mistake in using a special graph that a computer made. The top line of the graph went up and up and was bright red. Scientists thought this showed the future global warming. But....someone checked the numbers that were used to generate the graph. They found out the graph forecast a future that was unlikely... in fact, impossible! Without the top line of the graph, the climate emergency disappears! People used to say "We don't have time" but the little rabbits learn that we DO have time. Don't worry. Be happy! (PS for adults, the graph is know as the Representative Concentration Pathway. The top line is known as RCP8.5. Roger Pielke, Jr. and Justin Ritchie have a peer-reviewed paper about this topic: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S2214629620304655 ) Learn more about climate change science and policy: friendsofscience.org

The UN Climate folk are gathering in Katowice, Poland from Dec. 2-14, 2018 to set the Paris Agreement 'rulebook.' We are concerned this would be very detrimental to Canada and to democracy. We are also convinced that the IPPC - the climate panel - are operating on faulty premises. Here's our new cross-Canada billboard campaign. And here is our report: "Faulty Premises = Poor Public Policy on Climate" https://blog.friendsofscience.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Faulty-Premises-Poor-Public-Policy-on-Climate-Oct-30-2018-FINAL.pdf Here is our report "In the Dark on Renewables" showing that they are NOT the solution to climate change or energy needs. https://blog.friendsofscience.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/In-the-Dark-on-Renewables-FINAL-Nov-18-2018.pdf And here's our report showing that no one in the world is working hard to reduce emissions like Canada... meaning, are we being duped? https://blog.friendsofscience.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/THE-WORLD-OF-CARBON-DIOXIDE-EMISSIONS-brief.pdf

The Alberta wildfires of May 2023 have wrought great destruction in the north western part of the province. Many people are calling this unprecedented; media are claiming it is all because human-caused global warming. In fact, May IS wildfire month in Alberta, all of the biggest wildfires have been in May for the past 100 years. Fort Mac - 2016, Slave Lake - 2011 (arson), Chinchaga Firestorm - 1950, and Lac la Biche - 1919 - all were May fires and all were hugely destructive. Alberta and BC face additional challenges today. There are millions of hectares of standing deadwood from the Mountain Pine Beetle Infestation. And across the Prairies, there was very little precipitation in April, in a period following three years of La Nina cycle. So, be prepared for wildfires in May. Be extra careful when working outside. Observe fire bans and safety recommendations of FireSmart and your community. Pack a 72 hour emergency evacuation kit and have it ready, just in case. Wildfires are extremely unpredictable, especially in hot, windy conditions.

Climate Change discussions focus on human-caused Greenhouse Gas emissions and carbon dioxide - but Dr. John D. Harper, FGSA,FGAC, PGeol., former director of the Geological Survey of Canada, points out that we rarely discuss the incredibly dynamic activities of Earth itself. Tectonic plate movements mean that land that used to be in Northern Africa is now on the coast of Eastern Canada! Though these changes happened eons ago, those tectonic plates are still moving, the earth's mantle and core still drive dynamic processes as do extraterrestrial forces - like the gravitational pull of the moon, the sun, and planetary conjunctions. These are rarely discussed regarding climate change. Likewise, the earth used to have a much longer year - what caused that, and how does that affect climate?

Greta Thunberg is about to release "The Climate Book", which features a cover of cold blue stripes leading up to a series of hot red stripes - suggesting dangerous global warming. But if you look at present warming in the context of history, you will see that climate is cyclical, going from warm to cold periods and back again, in uneven patterns over time. The Little Ice Age that preceded our present warm period was deadly for many people - featuring very erratic weather, long-term rain cycles over periods of months and years, resulting in crops being washed out completely, people being unable to dry hay for livestock, leading to famines and social chaos. By contrast, the Medieval Warm Period (or Medieval Optimum) prior to the LIA was a time of abundant crops and stable weather conditions, meaning there was the time and energy to build castles and churches. We hope to bring some calm and common sense to the climate debate by helping people understand that climate is cyclical.
