Calcium Contract - 03 Village - No Commentary
No commentary playthrough of Calcium Contract, Macabre difficulty.
You are part of the calcium order, that is the reapers who take the lives of the creatures when their time comes. Unfortunately, one creature which refuses to die took hold of an island, and has been repelling the Order's agents rather successfully.
I didn't know what to expect of this one, looking at videos and screenshots I was pretty puzzled, and not sure about this. After playing the demo, it still is very wacky, but I must admit I was enjoying while playing it. Despite running on a custom engine, the game plays extremely well, like your usual GZDoom based game, so you'll feel right at home.

No sabía qué esperar de este, viendo los videos y los pantallazos estaba bastante confuso, y no sabía qué esperar. Después de jugar la demo, me sigue pareciendo bastante loco, pero debo admitir que estaba disfrutando mientras lo jugaba. A pesar de usar un motor propio, el juego se siente como tu típico juego basado en GZDoom, así que estarás como en casa.

No commentary playthrough of the newely released Heretic megawad "Faithless". Showing all secrets, played on the highest difficulty setting "Anarchist" (it's the same as Black Plague).
Faithless is a three episode megawad created by no other than "Jimmy" (Jenesis, Deathless, and pretty much every music in every megawad released on the last 10 years). This ZDoom megawad is the perfect blend of Heretic and Hexen, where each episode is a new hub to explore, with bestiary and weapons from both Heretic and Hexen, and then some. Don't be afraid of the Hexen style hubs, those aren't so cryptic as the ones in the original game. One of the best Heretic wads ever.

Faithless es un megawad de tres episodios creado por el mismísimo "Jimmy" (Jenesis, Deathless, y prácticamente toda la música de cualquier megawad publicado en los últimos 10 años). Este megawad para ZDoom es la mezcla perfecta entre Heretic y Hexen, donde cada episodio es un hub nuevo a explorar, con el bestiario y armas de los dos juegos, y más también. Que no te asusten los hubs estilo Hexen, estos no son tan crípticos. Uno de los mejores wads para Heretic de todos los tiempos.

No commentary playthrough of Descent, PC version, using the DXX-Rebirth source port. Hotshot difficulty.
Developed by Parallax Software (now Volition) and published by Interplay in 1994, it was heavily marketed as the "360º shooter". Descent is a first person shooter where the robots from mining colonies all around the Solar System have gone rogue. You'll pilot a small vessel through the tunnels and caves to shut them down for good.
Descent is the best game I suck at, I like it but I get destroyed on higher skill levels. Despite using 3D models for every character, Descent uses a portal based engine where the levels are built from cubes al mashed alltogether, you can deform them as long as they remain convex. Descent also featured a killer midi soundtrack.

Desarrollado por Parallax Software (ahora Volition) y publicado por Interplay en 1994, Descent fue publicitado agresivamente como el "shooter 360º". Descent es un shooter en primera persona donde los robots de las colonias mineras de nuestro Sistema Solar se han rebeleado. Pilotas una pequeña nave a través de los túneles y cuevas para desactivarlos de bien.
Descent es el mejor juego en el que doy asco, me gusta, pero me destruyen en los niveles de dificultad superiores. A pesar de usar modelos 3D para todos los personajes, Descent usa un motor basado en portales en el que los niveles se conforman de cubos apiñados los unos con los otros, se pueden deformar mientras sigan siendo convexos. Descent también tenía una banda sonora midi excelente.

No commentary playthrough of the PC version of Singularity, with fixed FoV and presented in 4K.
Singularity is yet another little gem from Raven Software which has been through development hell, with rough cuts from the content, delays, and even was at the verge of cancellation. It had a discrete success (that is, a failure in Activi$ion's eyes), but it's still one of those "good but not excellent" Raven Software games.
You are a soldier sent to investigate an abandoned military/scientific facility in a Soviet island and eventually get involved in time travel and adquire a device that can age stuff and turn people to ashes.

Singularity es otro diamante en bruto de Raven Software que pasó un desarrollo infernal, con grandes recortes del contenido, retrasos, e incluso estuvo a punto de ser cancelado. Un un éxito discreto (eso es un fracaso a ojos de Activi$ion), pero a pesar de todos es uno de esos juegos "buenos pero no excelentes" de los que solamente sabe traer Raven Software.
Eres un soldado enviado a unas instalaciones militar/científicas en una remota isla soviética que se ve involucrado en viajes en el tiempo y adquiere un aparato con el que puede envejecer cosas y reducir la gente a cenizas.

No commentary playthrough of the Cydonia addon for Doom2 created by Scotty & AD_79. Played under GZD, Ultra-Violence difficulty, pistol start on every level and showing every secret.
Cydonia is "a wad designed to try and emulate Casali mapping with old school compact, high impact maps." ... And I'd say it's pretty successful at that task! 22 new level with intense action, short duration levels which Plutonia looks. Definetly recommended.

Playthrough sin comentar del addon Cydonia para Doom2, creado por Scotty & AD_79. Jugado usando GZD, dificultad Ultra-Violence, empezando con pistola en cada nivel y mostrando todos los secretos.
Cydonia es "un wad diseñado para intentar emular los mapeados de los Casali, con mapas compactos de la vieja escuela, de alto impacto." ... Y diría que es bastante bastante exitoso en la tarea! 22 nuevos niveles de acción intensa, duración corta y looks de Plutonia. Altamente recomendado.

No Commentary playthrough of the Early Access version of Project Warlock 2. 4K, Come Get Some difficulty setting, trying to get all secrets.
PW2 finally entered EA phase after its successful Kickstarter and a promising demo, and it has improved a lot imho, specially in the visual department, now with a more consistent comic look, all graphics reworked, along with less postprocess effects. What puts this one aside from the rest of the boomer shooter nowadays, is the more classic action approach, key hunting, lots of secrets, and lots of enemies scattered around. It also features its own quirks, with a combo score system, and weapon reloading but not in the way you might imagine... as there's no reload key, you have to switch weapons and the unused weapons will reload after a couple seconds cooldown.
This second, major Early Access patch ditches the huge long levels with a thousand monsters and 40mins of action, splitting them in half, resulting in more manageable chunks.

PW2 finalmente ha entrado en fase de AA despues de superar con éxito su Kickstarter y con una prometedora demo, y ha mejorado mucho en mi opinión, especialemente en los visual, con una apariencia más consistente estilo cómic, todos los gráficos rearreglados, y con menos efectos de post procesado. Lo que lo diferencia de otros boomer shooters recientes, es su aproximación más clásica a la acción, buscar llaves, muchos secretos, y muchos enemigos repartidos por ellos. También tiene su propia vuelta de tuerca, con un sistema de puntos por combos, y su propio sistema de recarga de armas... No tienes tecla de recargar, tienes que cambiar de arma para que la anterior se recargue pasivamente tras un par de segundos.

(English below)Playthrough sin comentar de la versión de PC del Wolfenstein de 2009. En 4K, dificultad difícil.
Este es el Wolfenstein que todo el mundo ha olvidado, e injustamente la verdad. Es un juego decente, el problema es que "decente" en 2009 no era la nota de corte ni mucho menos. Cuando otros lanzamientos recientes eran Modern Warfare 2, Crysis, Bioshock, Killzone 2, Borderlands, BF: Bad Company... Pues ser "decente" no es suficiente. Raven Software, haciendo buen uso del motor de IdTech4 (Doom3), llevan a Blazkowicz a la villa de Isenstadt, donde los Nazis ejercen la ley marcial para investigar y explotar los poderes ocultistas que allí se concentran.
Isenstadt se establece como el hub principal a través del cual accedemos a las distintas misiones que se encuentran fuera de la villa, y donde también vamos desbloqueando distritos de la misma a medida que avanzamos. Es algo así como una estructura de mundo abierto, pero realmente es un juego lineal en el que visitamos algunas localizaciones varias veces. También podemos ir adquiriendo mejoras para nuestras armas y medallón con los tesoros que vayamos encontrando. Como ya he dicho, es un juego decente, ni muy bueno ni malo, en la línea de Raven Software, las armas son satisfactorias de usar y machacar a los nazis siempre es divertido. El juego es un poco fácil, sobretodo gracias a los poderes sobrenaturales del medallón que poseemos. Si te han gustado el Quake4 o el Singularity, pues aquí vas a encontrar material igualmente agradable.

No Commentary playthrough of the PC version of Wolfenstein 2009. 4K, hard difficulty.
This is the Wolfenstein game people has forgotten, and it's a bit unfair tbh. It's a decent game, problem is "decent" didn't cut it in 2009. When other recent notorious releases are Modern Warfare 2, Crysis, Bioshock, Killzone 2, Borderlands, BF: Bad Company... Then "decent" it's just not enough. Raven Software made good use of the IdTech4 engine (Doom3), bringin Blazkovicz to the town of Isenstadt, where the nazis instaurated martial law in order to investigate and exploit the occult powers found in there.
Isenstadt is the main hub from where you access the different missions outside the village, and where we keep unlocking new districts to visit as we progress. More like an open world game, but it's really a linear experience where you revisit a bunch of areas a few times. We can also adquire upgrades for our weapons and medallion powers with the hidden treasures scattered around. As I said, it's a decent game, not excellent, but not bad either, just like every Raven Software late releases, weapons have good feedback and crushing nazis is always fun. This is part of my "Best Wads of 2002" feature for Doom's 29th anniversary in 2022, where I will be posting the wads from 20 years ago which stood the test of time.
4 new episodes for Ultimate Doom, with levels of varying quality, but mostly good. I ended up regretting playing with fast monsters, as the wad started up as a great ride, but it gets more bullshitty as you go on, by episode 4, ammo is super tight and there's virtually no health pickups.

Playthrough sin comentar de 2002: A Doom Odyssey para Ultimate Doom. Empezando con pistola en cada nivel, monstruos rápidos y consiguiendo todos los secretos.
Esto es parte de mi programación de "Los Mejores Wads de 2002" por el 29 aniversario de Doom, en 2022, donde iré publicando los wads de hace 20 años que mejor han aguantado el paso del tiempo.
4 nuevos episodios para Ultimate Doom, con niveles de diversa calidad, pero mayormente buenos. Terminé arrepintiéndome de jugar con monstruos rápidos ya que aunque el wad empezó como un viaje agradable, se va poniendo más cabrón a medida que avanzas, en el episodio 4 la munición va contada y prácticamente no hay vida para recoger.
