9/18/2014 HRC Promotes Hatred/Walid Shoebat’s Roman Canon Argument/Zahndian Jesus
Just a couple of topics today. Briefly mentioned the promotion of hatred, and maybe even violence, by the HRC; then briefly addressed Walid Shoebat’s odd canon comments (taking an interesting rabbit trail on the Pope’s strange actions and the issue of defining marriage); and finished up reviewing Brian Zahnd’s opening statement on the atonement against Michael Brown. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJThP4poAsw
Spent the first hour going over developments over the past few days, including discussions of the Washington Rally with the National Council of Churches, the MLK50 Conference, Martin Luther King’s own professed theology, Thabiti Anyabwile’s imputation of guilt to our grandparents, and finally Kyle J. Howard’s public statement that he would not feel “safe” meeting with me alone “as a black man.” Then we opened the phones with all sorts of calls—none of which were on the topic of the first hour! Well, we announced during the show today that I am now the official theologian for Skillet, so it was time to have the founding lead singer, John Cooper, on the Dividing Line! Had a great time talking with John about the band, its history, ministry in a challenging field, etc. His response to the apostasy of Joshua Harris went viral last year, and it was truly a sound, solid response that garnered a lot of attention. We also played one of their new songs, Terrify the Dark, and discussed its meaning. All in all a really great time, and he was rocking his Just Thinking hat in honor of ol’ Darrell and Omaha, so it was great for everyone. And, of course, his beard likewise made a special appearance (it has its own billing!). Enjoy this time with John Cooper of Skillet! Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/

We finished up our review of the Stanley/Flowers interview today on a special year-end edition of Radio Free Geneva, during which we learned that Reformed folks do not need to do apologetics, amongst other amazing revelations. Then we played a video from Pastor Adam Fannin of the Stedfast Baptist Church in which he reviews our tract, The Christian Message. Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/

Covered my two weeks overseas with lots of side-trips and commentary on related issues, and toward the end focused upon some issues that came up in my debate with Zakir Hussein on the crucifixion, especially John 17:5 and Psalm 22:16. Also showed off a new Bible, a Polish translation of The Roman Catholic Controversy, my Bates hat from London, and the upgrading of the DL to full warp power! Lots of stuff on a 90+ minute episode today. Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/

Started off commenting on the Crosspolitic.com interview with Greg Johnson, pastor of the PCA church hosting the Revoice Conference this weekend. Then we started taking calls on topics such as polygamy, the canon of the Old Testament, how to leave a church, and finishing with a call from Dino in Sri Lanka on the subject of Roman Catholicism. In "Is the Bible True", James White and Robert Price battle on a wide-ranging, fast-paced front. White challenges Dr. Price's skepticism, treatment of the Biblical text, and approach to history; while Dr. Price concentrates on claims of contradiction, Greek influence on Jewish culture, and his views on the reliability of Scripture. The examination is quick and meaty, and the argumentation is worthy of in-depth study. The preparation level in this debate was excellent, and the level of dialogue was professional throughout. This debate will help any Christian who wants to know how to challenge invalid non-Christian assumptions while proclaiming God's truth faithfully. Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/
A special show in response to Leighton Flowers’ pre-debate video. Just want to interact with a few specific items.

Read, and fully responded to, a rebuke from Christian brothers and sisters based upon an article (which I also read) about the need to do history seriously, without imposing lenses and filters that fundamentally distort it. Addressed a number of issues that came up over the weekend regarding the explosion of social justice revolution in the world, and its inconsistency with the Christian worldview. Read an article from Peter Leithart https://theopolisinstitute.com/leithart_post/americas-new-religion/ that was spot-on as well. Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/

So Rich was literally just poking around on Twitter when he stumbled across the “live” set up recently, so today was our first day to live-cast on Twitter. That was what we wanted to do all along, but obviously things are developing at Twitter and so we had to use Facebook (which drove me nuts). But, for as long as we can, we will use Twitter for our live streaming.
Today we announced some upcoming debates, specifically a series of debates in February that should have something for everyone! I then went over an odd, out-of-place diatribe against “Biblicism” found in Matthew Barrett’s new book. If the rest of the 900 page monster is of similar nature, to use Luther’s language, the book will be a “right strawy epistle.” We worked through the entire section asking the important questions and truly wondering what the answers will be. Then I responded to Steve Camp’s recent Twitter claim that all PTs (postmillennial theonomists) “mistranslate” Matthew 28:19-20. Ninety minutes today!
