In this latest instalment of UX portfolio reviews, I'll walk through the latest viewer submission which covers the junior designer's UX portfolio and a couple of case studies. One thing that is very common for junior UX, product and UI designers is over-designing the portfolio itself. In this video, I'll highlight why that might backfire when it's viewed by design hiring managers.
Sometime back I asked my viewers if there's anyone who would like to get their UX portfolios reviewed and shared with the broader audience. While it must be daunting to put it out there, constructive feedback and specific pointers can make all the difference. Would you like your UX design portfolio to be reviewed with constructive pointers? Drop me a line.
I recently also created a playlist that contains all my videos on UX portfolios here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLM2Dd2NIn2Co0dXW7ySkIQEl-8zMcrQiP

This past year has been a challenging and turbulent year for everyone; One positive outcome of so many people facing the lockdowns and isolation is the drive to get into UX design and UX research. The reach for the experience design content has grown exponentially resulting in over 1million combined views as well as 10k+ channel subscribers. Better yet, the reach is global, which makes all of it worth it. In this video, I'll share my gratitude as well as try to answer a few recent questions on:

3:31 Getting into UX
4:36 UI handovers
5:34 Office setup for remote UX design and research work
7:36 Is UX responsible for the death of creative UI design?

In this episode, I'm talking with Michelle P., a UXer, product marketing researcher and former community manager at Fatshark Games. Michelle shares her unique perspective from her community-building experiences in the gaming industry. We will draw a lot of learnings and parallels to more standard/web product and service community building. It's time for another UX design, user research, UI and prototyping challenge. This time I'm lifting a limit of just coming up with Axure prototypes - use any tools you feel most comfortable with. The key aim in this challenge for every designer who is currently struggling to come up with a good challenge and produce a case study for their portfolios. This brief should spark some great ideas to explore, discover, ideate, and define a better experience for canceling a simple service. In this particular brief, I'll share the starter journey I took to cancel my Vodafone mobile broadband subscription. And boy was it difficult. I had to go through multiple chatbots and support colleague conversations, and no simple way to cancel it with a click of a button. One thing worth mentioning is that this challenge will push you to overcome so-called "dark patterns" or as I like to label them as manipulative, exploitative, and outright criminal UX patterns.
Challenge: A better service cancellation CX Starter UX material shared in the video: https://miro.com/app/board/o9J_lIcum8k=/ Scope: You decide - focus on UX case study as the final outcome though; you can do end-to-end UX, discovery or user research only, prototyping or just UI design... Consider what you can achieve within a month; perhaps it's going to be just a start of a much bigger effort or project. Tools: Sketch, Figma, Miro, Axure... any other UX and UI tool Timeframe: Submit your takes by 1st Jun 2021 - hello@vaexperience.com or leave a comment below. Be sure to add some rationale;
Let the challenge begin!
