I can't remember what I was going to talk about, and I lost my pants.
In this video, I was going to talk about something. But I lost my pants had had to go for an extreme close up. Then I forgot what it was I was going to talk about.
So....I guess this video is a pointless waste of time. Thanks for watching.
My 35mm f/0.95 lens just arrived! Let's take a look at how it performs.
In this video, I test out the performance of this APS-C format lens on a full frame mirrorless camera, the Nikon Z6.
Most of this video was shot in full frame mode. The parts I recorded in DX are indicated through text on-screen.
The vignette effect is stronger at close focus. The image circle expands as you focus towards infinity.
At f/1.8 on the Z6, the camera can see in the dark about as well as I can.
At f/0.95 on the Z6 at maximum ISO, the camera can see better than I can.
Cool stuff!
This is not a sponsored or promo video. I paid for this lens myself and the company did not ask for a review. (although I did not pay full price for it, it was on sale for $192 USD, reg. $249)

This is part of a collaborative sonic arts/sound art project from 2005, where we walked around the city of Toronto with a microphone and field recorder, capturing the ambient sounds around us as we explored.
The direction we took was determined by "Manfred" The name we gave to the man on the walk/don't walk signs.
At the time, we did not have access to video capture devices, so this was an audio only project. I have created a video accompaniment to go along with these sound files.

Measure with a T-Square.
Cut with a steel straight edge.
Aluminum and Olfa's don't get along very well, and the Olfa will always win. Spare your expensive T-Square and use a cheat straight edge to cut with.

I was out for a walk yesterday with my shiny new full-spectrum converted Nikon Z5 full frame mirrorless camera and my old trusty 14-30mm/4 S lens.
I was testing out my Zomei 950nm deep infrared filter to see if it was possible to record video at all. I've read that the long exposure times of the deep IR 950nm filter would make video impossible, but I was able to get 4K QHD video at 1/30 sec shutter, f/4, with ISO between 360-800.
The performance of this filter isn't too different from my 850nm by the same company, although the histogram feels more compressed with this filter. According to the live histogram, the dynamic range of a sunny day is about 1/3 what the sensor can handle.
I am setting the exposure compensation to about -2.00 EV for proper exposure by eye (total subjective judgement), but the histogram on the camera still reads this as being underexposed.
I'm still shooting straight jpegs though and seeing what I can do purely in-camera. I will start pushing RAW files in post on my computer after I learn what my full spectrum Z5 can do on it's own.
I used FL Studio 11 to create some ambient background noise to replace the howling wind.
I thought the weird IR black and white long-take had a weird surreal, dream-like, Lynchian quality to it.
Desaturation and curves adjustment added in post.

While walking through Toronto's High Park, I came across a field of flowers that was swarming with bumble bees. It was neat how close I was able to get. They were so interested in collecting the pollen, they completely ignored me. I even pet a few of them.
This gave me a great opportunity to play with the subject tracking auto focus on my Nikon Z6 with lots of foreground elements in the way of the subject. It worked extremely well.

Why do I Think People Find Smartphones So Frustrating?
I believe it's because the devices are opaque to others.
If you see someone reading a newspaper, you know they are reading the news. You see someone holding a gameboy, you know they are playing videogames.
But if someone is holding a smartphone, you have no idea what they are doing. People don't like this.

Is it just me, or does it seem like shipping boxes are an order of magnitude larger than they need to be? They could have easily fit 6 boxes inside this one shipping box.
It seems absurdly wasteful in terms of both material (cardboard) and space, in both warehouses and delivery trucks.
Why is it more efficient to fit fewer large boxes than more small boxes in a delivery vehicle? This seems counterintuitive.
The 3rd thumbnail that was auto generated sums up the video's content so well, you really don't have to spend the minute it takes to watch this.

I've been playing around with AI image and video enhancement tools - shooting footage beyond what is reasonable to fix, then setting the sliders on the various software tools too high, then enjoying the blurry smudgy wobbly weirdness.
I put my 14-30mm/4 on my full spectrum converted Z5, attached a 680nm infrared filter, and set up a timelapse sequence, shooting one shot every half second.
Starting from St. George Station, I walked along Bloor Street, past the ROM, then turned South on Bay street, walking all the way down to Front St, then I headed back up to St. George via University.
I managed to get about 5000 shots on a single battery!
The hyperlapse sequence was rendered out as a 480x480 24p video with a colour channel swap and a saturation adjustment, then I ran it through Topaz Video AI, with 8X frame interpolation, 4x upscale, 100% stabilization (2 passes), and some sharpening.
The audio is from the walk, but it has been squeezed to fit the length of the video. This was my first opportunity to use my fancy new Rode Wireless Pro system for something. The 32-bit float audio allowed me to capture everything from quiet footsteps to obnoxiously loud motorcycles without any clipping, and I was able to apply a lot of dynamics compression so you can hear it all in the final mix.
