The beaches in Tel Aviv are some of the most amazing beaches I've ever been to if not THE most amazing. Definitely worth a visit.

For those of you who don't know, John Meadows (aka MountainDog1) was hospitalized with a heart attack yesterday.
I like John Meadows and hope he gets better soon. From what I heard he seems to be in stable condition, so that's good.
The reason this seems to be blowing up on YouTube right now is because he seemed to be super responsible about his use of anabolics, yet still suffered a heart attack at a relatively young age.

Any time you start a new activity, you're going to be really bad at it. In fact, you have to be bad at something before you can be good at it.
We all understand this on an instinctual level, but for some reason we don't seem to comprehend this in practice.
If we did, then why do we quit things so soon after starting? Why do people make the same New Year's Resolutions year after year and never follow through on them?
Why do so many people try to pick up hobbies like playing an instrument and then quit?
But most importantly, why do so many people find it so hard to lose weight and get in shape?
I think the reason is that people underestimate the massive amount of work required to actually get good at something. And when that something is as integral to our lives as the health of our physical body, we seem to believe in the hype that one magic pill or exercise machine we order on late night TV is going to solve our problems.
All that said, the real problem is that we don't prepare ourselves to enjoy the journey enough. We want the result NOW. We don't care about the journey involved in getting there, we just want to take what we can without having to put any effort into what we're trying to do.
This can be applied to tons of stuff, not just fitness. But if you examine people who are truly fit, the ones who stay fit for a long time are ones who have learned to enjoy the process of becoming fit. You can replace "fit" with "rich" or "successful" or "talented" or whatever word you want.

OK so first off, sorry about the sound quality in this video. There is intermittent wind noise but IMO it's still watchable which is why I uploaded it.
That said, let's talk about calorie counting and fasting.
I think it's a huge waste of time for most people. If you're a professional athlete or preparing for a bodybuilding competition, ok you can count your calories.
But for most people who are just casually trying to lose weight and get a nicer body, I think it's completely unnecessary.
Yes, it can be helpful for some people who will become more disciplined by logging everything they eat. But in my experience, people who count calories do so because they want to avoid working out.
In fact, in my experience it seems like people will do all kinds of crazy stuff to avoid going to the gym. Which is crazy to me because working out gives so many benefits: better body composition, an endorphin rush, and the ability to make other people jealous that they don't look like you.
You can count calories if you want. Just make sure you're not doing it to avoid exercise.
