Looking for retro pop culture, and old technology finds at second hand stores has always been a a part of my Urbex world for many years now and in response to questions from new Urban Explorers on what constitutes urbex I decided to show you a few of my recent scores from Goodwill and Salvation Army Stores in my area to show that urban exploring is NOT just abandoned places but a wide variety of history and preservation. Urban Exploration is not as pretty as many channels today make it out to be this is just one of the raw rough and real Explores we have done this year that many channels don't or won't do since it is not pretty and clean and is sometimes downright gross, this is the sad side of Urban Exploring. This old factory gave us a surprise from the beginning when I walked in on a rather robust naked man laying on the floor(YouTube will not let us show that of course) to the obvious areas of homeless habitation upstairs(one room may have been his) and even someone in a bathroom shower stall that we tried to talk to but decided to give them space. Thankfully the naked guy had put his clothes back on by the time we were done Exploring and then proceeded to ask us for a ride to another city, which we refused but we did give him $5 for some food. The smell of the multiple makeshift hobo toilets and rotting food mixed in the air with strong body odor even made its way past my filtered Inogen G3 oxygen concentrator and is one of those smells you never forget. We have spent much of this year Exploring off the beaten path because we want to see the gritty places few Explorers see and document and share those as well as the big more pretty upscale ones you can see anywhere. This destroyed huge 1930s Royal Neighbors estate turned rest home shows why explorers rarely share sites openly. This once gorgeous building has been totally ravaged by vandalism since it closed in 2004 and is now only a shell of it's former glory. Come with me and try to imagine what once was. This place was once an amazingly huge and grand Estate overlooking the Mississippi River and started out as a women's and children's shelter by the Royal Neighbors group, later in it's life it was a nursing home until it closed in 2004 for good. This is our Exploration of Gilroy Stadium in Indiana, a place that really needs to be demolished due to how easy it is for children to get into the cheaply built collapsing ruins. The concrete floors are amazingly thin and collapsing in many places only held up by under code thin metal beams that themselves are rotted through. When we visited there were no trespassing signs anywhere and the stadium had multiple points of entry.
