Let me start by saying that I could be completely off in my assessments but doubt it. I welcome your thoughts and feedback in the comments. Just so it's been said though... the opinions expressed in this video are mine and mine alone.
The videos I'm looking at in this video can be found on Cloud Microphone's YouTube page. Here are the URLs:
In this video I'm going to go thru Cloud Microphone's two videos and debunk the audio tricks used to embellish the effectiveness of their products. Cloud Microphones makes very good products so they don't need to exaggerate their features and effectiveness so these videos are puzzling.

There are a lot of people online that tell you what not to do to ribbon mics but nobody has wanted to demonstrate those things for you... until today. In this video I do everything you're not supposed to do to ribbon microphones.
Do not do anything you see me do in this video! Any and all of these things will destroy a microphone. Attempting some of the things in this video could lead to injury or death.

Most people use the term "Soundproofing" to describe any and all room treatment for sound purposes. In actuality, it's only half the story. Learn the full story in this overview of acoustic room treatment!
One of the web resources I've found for comparing sound treatment:

Listening is critical when you are working in or with something sound. While it seems very much like common sense, more than often people follow the "rules" or what they were told to do as opposed to listening and making judgement calls for themselves. Microphone angles matter!
Acoustics is science and mic placement is art. When you use a microphone that is generally considered difficult to get ideal sound with indoors (like a shotgun mic) there are things you should consider when determining proper mic placement and in this video I'm going to go over some of those things in less than ideal circumstances. Using a shotgun microphone indoors will be easier after watching this video.

Since I started this channel people have been asking me if I could recommend a deep discount (AKA cheap) wireless system. My answer has always been "no" in the past but that's all changed now that I've tried the Movo WMX-20-Duo 2 channel selectable frequency UHF wireless system. How good can a wireless system that costs only $125 per channel all inclusive wireless system be? You're about to find out.
I'm also including professional best practices for using UHF wireless systems. These are especially important to optimizing the performance of discount UHF wireless systems.

NOTE: If you're wondering why this stream ended abruptly... I had power failure. My county experienced a power outage for nearly 2 hours. Sorry about that. No worries though, I'll be back soon enough to finish my story and tell many others.
If you've followed me for a while you know that my internet has been acting up for the past few months. Issues with Charter have been worked out (I think) but now, my router is bad. I'll upgrade it eventually (when I can) but in the mean time... bear with me.
I normally wouldn't LIVE stream but I was some feedback here. I have an idea I want to run past you and am looking for feedback. I'll pitch the idea at 10:30PM so tune in and share your thoughts.

Acoustics sometimes play games on our ears. There are times you may not be able to tell what exactly is wrong with the way something sounds but know something is off. Luckily, there is an easy way to tell if your microphone is off axis or too far away from the subject.

I'm aware that the audio isn't clean. That's the point.
All too often people buy microphones expecting them to sound the way they did in a review they watched on YouTube. There are many things that could lead people to believe that a particular mic would be best for them but when they listen to it, they suddenly find it isn't ideal. Reasons for this could range from the tonal or pitch of the voice to the acoustic treatment in the room you're using the microphone in.
Not all microphones are equal. Some are best for fidelity while others are forgotten because they move with your head but which is best for using in an untreated room?
In this video I'm comparing 10 different kinds of microphones ranging from my camera mic to a lav mic to a long shotgun mic. We'll get down to the bottom of this one!

If you have hundreds or even thousands invested in your cables, you need to pay attention for the next few minutes. If you are responsible for someone else's cables, definitely take note of this trick because it could save your job.
Whenever you are running cable thru doors or windows, you should consider my technique for protecting your cables. It only takes a split second for SOMEONE ELSE to sever your cable and with my technique, you'll protect your cables from damage for years and years.

Boom pole cleaning and maintenance is something that there's little info about on the websites of the manufacturers themselves. This is not because they want you to destroy your poles so you have to buy replacements but because most sound professionals have tricks they use for cleaning and maintaining their own boom poles. In this video, I'll go over my tips.
Note: Many of the great techniques I've learned were first taught to me from the amazing boom operator Doug Cameron. Much love to you bro!
If you have tricks that you use for maintaining your own boompoles, please write them in the comments below!
