BenQ SX930 DLP Projector Repair DMD Chip Replacement
This BenQ SX930 was dropped off by a rep for a local school. They have a few and this one started to lose pixels in the lower right corner after not that long. Being that having this repaired under warranty would take a while, incur shipping cost and down time, they decided to let me repair it out of warranty. I gave them a very reasonable price(parts at cost plus labor) and went ahead with the repair.
The DMD looks like it might have had the back of the mirror assembly detach from the substrate. The chip has a weird rainbow pattern on the surface. You will see in the video.
I sourced a new OEM chip from an eBay seller in Poland. They sell for Acer but the parts are the same. This was a 1076-7428 DLP chip. Here is a link to the seller. https://www.ebay.com/usr/isotec-acer Super fast shipping. Reasonable price. I'm using them again if I can.
If you need a lamp you can get one online. Here is the part # https://www.purelandsupply.com/benq-lcd-projector-lamp_sx930.html None in stock here. I'm not 100% if its available aftermarket yet. I'll check and see if there is one on the horizon.

Finished the Sonos Amp. I did end up checking the sound with the client since it is connected to their account. If I get another to work on, I may get my own account. I ended up replacing the 2 Mosfets and 2 Diodes in the power supply. Nothing else was damaged. Thanks for watchin
FYI, Unfortunately I am unable to take in Sonos amps for repair. The lack of parts availability and service info is crippling. Only power issues seem to be cost effective to repair. Low volume, no sound, are beyond the ability to repair with the info that is available. I wish I had the time/ability work on these for you. I'm happy to answer questions though.

Rather than split this into 2 vids, I left it as one long vid. Feel free to jump around to find what you need.
This Optoma HD141X was sent in by a viewer who was having some hassle with repairing it themselves. Rather than push on and possibly ruin something they were wise to stop and contact me. The PJ had two problems. The first was the color wheel connection had snapped. They are very delicate and I have broken plenty. I ended up replacing the board connector and re-stripping the flat cable to the wheel to get that up and running. The issue is one that was reasonably straightforward to repair, but only because I have seen it before. The spring that pushes against the light tunnel/integrator was not pushing back. I was able to press the spring 'tines' back into place and then re-adjusted the alignment screws. There was some dust showing up in the image but it turned out to be some specs that landed on the face of the DLP chip. I gave it a quick wipe with a chamois swab and it looked fine. The lamp isnt the best but as far as knocks offs go, its not awful. The lumen output is about 400~ less than a real Osram. A real bulb would be brighter but not significantly so.
All in all it worked out and now this fellow has a perfectly working projector again.

This was sent in by another viewer who was having a situation where the projector would run for a bit. Then it would freeze and shut down. Their initial diagnosis showed the lamp fan no longer spinning. This is not uncommon in Sim2's of that age. The power supply was repaired at one point in the past but they used the wrong value capacitor. This was causing a slight delay in startup but did not cause any real problems. I opted to replace it with a correct capacitor anyway and replaced another that was suspect in my opinion.
Originally I had thought about replacing all the fans. Instead we opted to change the one fan on the lamp even though I got it working. With some repairs you need to take the age of a device into account. The other 2 fans are not showing any signs of trouble. Rather than waste the owners money on things that aren't broken, we are only replacing the one fan. If they start to act up at a later date they can be addresses then. Until then this will save the owner some money. I suspect he will replace this Sim2 before the fans ever fail.
The fan sizes are 80x80x15mm and 60x60x15mm. The lamp is a 120W P22 reflector (UHP in this case but PVIP will also work).
