?️ Motivation to play your game #5 + Udemy course genre | Office Orc]
This is just a short update on my first commerical game Office Orc.
This devlog is giving you a glimpse into the game and this video's topic is showing you a neat way how to give the player instant understanding what the game is a about and why you are doing it. This is very important because the player needs to relate why he is playing your game and what he is gaining by doing so.
The second part is about the upcoming Udemy course for beginners. You can decide in the poll what kind of genre this course will entail. The idea is to give newcomers a guide into game developement plus a robust understanding how to use GameMaker Studio 2.
How games make those gorgeous effect with lights, glow and shaders. This video we dive deep into some game mechanics and why they are an absolute must to know.

This basic video tutorial shows you how to make bullet objects bounce or ricochet in gamemaker studio.
How can this be done the easiest way?
Well, by simply using a a place meeting collision function for the vertical and horizontal wall objects. When a collision is about to happen, you simply need to update the direction where it is flying to. And that is pretty much it.
If there are better or more accurate solutions to this problem, write me in the comments below because I have seen mixed to really long plus difficult ways how to handle this issue at hand.
Minoria is the newest metroidvania game by the developer Bombservice.
Because I have seen the predecessor Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight and this title was made in gamemaker studio I asked for a review key. Which I got! So thanks a lot for the key!

This basic video tutorial shows you what the datastructure ds list is in gamemaker studio. It is basically quite easy to understand what a ds list ist. It is simple, data is being allocated and you can add entries to that structure. So like a list where you can add, check out or delete entires.
Ds list are being used for multiple collisions to store each hit, or for iventory or unlockables in video games.

This is the first video in a series on remaking Hotline Miami in GameMaker Studio.
This video tutorial shows you how to toggle between 4 options of the menue the way you see it in Hotline Miami in GameMaker Studio. It has no functionality and the aim is simply to set this as a template for us how you could advance this overall for your own game.

This video tutorial shows you how to make a map animation where the background scenery seems to dance in gameMaker Studio.
Where have seen this before.
You guess it! in good old nes super mario bros 3 or shovel knight. The idea is quite simple here. The tileset used to make the map is being added by a few tweeks to things that are being repeated heavily. So in my case I simply decrease the scenery props by one pixel on the tileset and make the animation bounce between only 2 frames. Now the houses or whatever prop you use seem to dance. Yay.

This is the 20th video in a series on remaking Hotline Miami in GameMaker Studio.
The video tutorial shows you how to setup a limted but very easy to implement collision system which works effective in this project. We simply have to check if there is an object collision with any obj_wall instances and if there is none, horizontal/vertical movement is possible.
This system has 2 limitations. No decimals are allowed (and no acceleration also) plus the start placement should be on grid (so no decimal numbers as a start placement also).
Note: Decimals can be used in an advanced version where you have rounded values with extra checks but this is kept simple so here these 2 limitations are fixed.

This basics video tutorial shows you how to search/query for your asset, code or references in GameMaker.
Image coming back to an project that you haven't touched for months and you want to find asset and specifc code pieces. Here you can use multiple ways to get to find your assets on the right side or the variables, sprites, instances being referenced/used on the left side.
The assets on the left side you can search with the search bar by name and by type or you can check out the most recend used assets to instantly jump to those.
The reference/use of variables, sprites, instances in code on the left side is restricted to asset types with code that you can search through. The easiest is to go into the event/script/shader and press control and F, where you can search and replace that search/query of the word. If you want to enlarge your scope you can also press control and shift and F to search all assets (or the selected types) and jump to those. Here you will have a popup of the search console giving you a list to get more informations. Or you can press F3 on the word in code and it will jump to where it is being used.
Tldr: seach and find, control + shift + F, jump where it is used F3
