A short walk around the hillfort...not much to see apart from sheep and trees but an historic place nevertheless
Clogher Hillfort has been an important place for thousands of years. The chiefs who used the site in the Bronze Age and Iron Age were probably similar to what we would call royalty today. By Christian times the site was certainly royal and most likely used for the inauguration of local kings.

Unfortunately I couldn't get into the field as there was a large herd of cows present, so I have included some photos in this short video.
The standing stone at Ballard is made of granite, measuring 1.5 metres in height and 1/2 metre in width. The stone leans to the east and tapers towards a pointed top. It is in a beautifully secluded and silent spot near Slieve Gullion.
