When building benchwork (or any project) with dimensional lumber, how do you determine the minimum size material to use for the proper structural integrity of the project? For example, to give you an idea of what I'm asking, if you build a model rr module about 2'x8' at 45" height from floor, what would be the minimum dimension of the lumber to support it, plus what minimum dimensions to use for the legs? Would 1x3s for the base and 2x2s for legs work for that project?
This is both about structural integrity and trying to reduce cost/weight in projects

Does roadbed for model railroads, either cork or foam, really reduce the clickity clack sounds of our trains? I have seen tests completed prior to ballasting the track, but once the track is ballasted and everything is glued into place, doesn't the ballasting and glue defeat any of the sound reduction qualities of the roadbed?

How important is 220 service in the woodshop? What tools tend to require it? Is a floor outlet a good thing to have and if so where in the workshop? Dead center? Yes these relate to my tiny (8x14) workshop space in the house being built for us.

Comparing the Two loco's . Atlas Gold Series & BLI
I wanted to see how each of these pulled . The Alco C420 did better then expected and the BLI ES44AC was a little disappointing . All in all I'm happy with both locos . I do like the ESU Loksound over the Paragon 3
