Reviews from the Multiverse: Superman Earth One Vol 1
Today we're taking a break from He-Man and talk about another favorite of mine. Superman! Specifically the Earth One Graphic Novel approach done by J Michael Straczynski & Shane Davis! Now there have been many retellings of Superman's origins, more so in recent years, but this one still comes off fresh and interesting. Truly feeling like a modern take. How does it stack up to others? Come and see as I start ANOTHER series of reviews, this one about the Earth One line. Enjoy! ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOGPZWkhKVM
First I'd like to state that I had stupidly deleted the original version of this review. Thankfully Ingrid was willing to meet up on stream to re-record our thoughts. Fair warning, the audio is off on this video and I couldn't figure out how to fix it. So please bare with us.
Anyway lets continue...
Ingrid and I continue our Movie Marathon as we go over the Expendables Trilogy, starting with the Director's Cut of the first movie! Written and Directed by Sylvester Stallone, this movie stars Sly, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Bruce Willis, Terry Crews, Eric Roberts, Mickey Rourke, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Steve Austin. It's an action fest as it pays tribute to movies from the late 80s and early 90s! And boy howdy does it show!
The Expendables are a group of Mercenaries led by Barney Ross (Sly) who are usually sent on near Suicidal missions (their name isn't just for show). They eventually get brought on a mission to overthrow a Dictator and the Suit empowering him. That's...pretty much all you need to summarize things. Yeah the plot is pretty thin but it's what's under the hood that counts.
This movie gives more character depth to the characters, it's about the team and how they interact across the mission. Also, naturally, we get a lot of big explosions and gunfire!
The thing is...Ingrid and I felt the movie was entertaining but by no means a masterpiece. A lot of the action takes place at night so it's hard to see. And, as we said, the plot is very thin. But, again, it was still dumb fun.

On our next lesson of Pro teaches n00bs, we will get going over 4 crossovers IDW put the Transformers through. 3 of which are from fellow franchises of the 80s
Joined by Eric, Alex, and Raymond, We go over Mars Attacks Transformers, Transformers/Ghostbusters, Transformers vs Terminator, and Transformers/Back to the Future.
Mars Attacks Transformers is a short romp that has the autobots and decepticons unite to push back the horrible little green invaders.
Transformers/Ghostbusters, set in the IDW Ghostbusters universe, has Ectron, an autobot that takes the form of Ecto-1, team up with the Ghostbusters to deal with the ghosts of Starscream and other decepticons.
Transformers vs Terminator is an alternate history where the Terminator is the hero (sort of) against the evil Cybertronians, and he comes back in time, TEAMS UP with Sarah Conner, and they end up helping the autobots stop the decepticons.
Transformers/Back to the Future involves Marty teaming up with Giggawatt, an autobot based on the delorean time machine, as time traveling shenanigans occurred thanks to the decepticons!

After seeing the Airport movies it was only natural for Alex and I to see the movies that parodied and killed that franchise, the Airplane Movies! And the funny thing is, while it's still proven the first movie is a comedic classic...we don't understand the hatred the second movie gets. I mean it starts off rough but it has its own charm
So many of the actors involved were amazing but no one can top Leslie Neilsen in the first movie nor William Shatner in the second. Both stole the show they were in
Airplane I:
This spoof comedy takes shots at the slew of disaster movies that were released in the 70s. When the passengers and crew of a jet are incapacitated due to food poisoning, a rogue pilot with a drinking problem must cooperate with his ex-girlfriend turned stewardess to bring the plane to a safe landing.
Airplane II: The Sequel
Though haunted by combat memories, heroic pilot Ted Striker (Robert Hays) agrees to return to the cockpit to man the controls of Mayflower One, America's first commercial spacecraft. But, as soon as Mayflower One lifts off, an electrical malfunction sends the ship veering off course. A shaken Striker struggles to guide the shuttle through a treacherous asteroid belt, tame its failing computer systems and stop the disgruntled Joe Seluchi (Sonny Bono) from detonating a deadly bomb on board.
