Every now and then a happy accident pays off and in the case of the sE Electronics V7X instrument microphone sent to me to review instead of the V7 vocal mic, it ended up working out.
Instrument mics are tuned for musical instruments but some microphones, such as the V7X dynamic supercardioid microphone, the frequencies it's tuned to also works well on the human voice. As a matter of fact, the V7X picks up even more frequencies than the vocal version which is already much wider than most dynamics.
In this review I explain why the sE Electronics V7X works great as a microphone for your voice. Sure, it may an instrument microphone because it excels there, but give it a listen on your voice because you may be surprised.

The film industry can be very unstable. One month you're making tons of money and your phone is ringing off the hook and the next, there's a strike and nobody is working. For a few months in 2023 and 2020, the film industry was dead in the water to tens of thousands of crew members worldwide.
Unfortunately it's not easy on crew members when you're out of work for a large chunk of the year. Bills don't pause when you're out of work so if you have to keep money coming in, what are your options? I'm going to share a few thoughts with you and then tell you what I've been doing the past few months.

Rode has released many microphones throughout it's history and in some ways, Rode has been an industry leader in great tech for the money. With the release of the Rode NTG5 short shotgun microphone Rode once again is turning heads and making people stop... and listen.
The Rode NTG5 is smaller and lighter than most short shotgun microphones but don't let it's size fool you. It's a powerhouse in both it's sound and design. With it's very generous accessories kit, it very could be the next big microphone everyone will be talking about.
Many YouTube channels review products. Some read out specs and give someone else's opinion as their own while others do a simple voice-over test but you won't find that here. My style is to extensively test the mic meaning that I test it in many different capacities and in this video you'll see just that testing.
At 1:26 I say "the microphone measures 203mm which is right at 8 ounces." That should have been corrected to "right at 8 inches".

Welcome to the twenty seventh episode of the Speed Bumps Podcast. In this episode I'm going to discuss why boom operators should always monitor sound on set. Some people still don't believe that anyone other than a sound mixer needs to wear headphones. For the second topic we're going to cover some of the things you need to be aware of when picking out or deciding if you're going to use wind protection on your boom mics. Enjoy.

Most people use the term "Soundproofing" to describe any and all room treatment for sound purposes. In actuality, it's only half the story. Learn the full story in this overview of acoustic room treatment!

Let's face it, nobody likes to ride their volume knob while listening to an audio recording. It's annoying to have to increase the volume during quiet parts only to quickly drop the level with hurt ears when the audio gets loud again. Since you're a considerate audio producer, you'll want to use audio compression to reduce the dynamics in your audio recording.
Audio compression can be dangerous and even destructive to your audio recording though. Not only can too much compression introduce too much noise to your recording but it can also destroy the fidelity of your audio track altogether. In this video I'm going to explain two things you need to know about audio compression and why you need to be careful when applying it.
Important note: This video serves to provide a basic visual of what the compression of one tall sinewave looks like. In the real world, you'd never actually adjust one wave in this fashion and I know that so to my professional viewers... "Settle down Beavis". Shortcuts have been taken, along with certain liberties, to help podcasters, hobbyists and small project video producers understand the basics of audio compression. Explaining it this way to the novice provides a starting point of understanding while giving enough info to encourage listening while editing as opposed to just running thru a process just because.

If you were to give each masked mic a rating between 1-10, what would they be? Write your rating in the comments below! Tell me which is your favorite and why. Remember, this is a blind microphone test so you can compare 2 mics without any pre-existing expectations affecting your ears and what you hear.
In this video I reveal the two microphones compared in Masked Mics 9. They were revealed to be:
