The little old German smurf lathe is back in the tool temple! I bought this lathe on a whim and haven't decided if I'm going to keep it or sell it. But first I need to get it going again. It needs a new belt, a new motor and a VFD drive. When that's all done I'll done I'll decide what to do, after some testing of course. If it works great, I might even restore the old machine make her nice pretty.
Looking at some lathe tools with my new digital microscope the Andonstar ADSM302. A wonderful tool to have, in any workshop.
FYI: I am trying to make a little money for my youtube hobby through the Banggood affiliates program. Follow the link below, buy something you NEED, and I'll earn some commission. Doesn’t cost you anything extra. You're basically taking money out of Banggood's pockets and putting it in mine :)

I'm finally regrinding the internal taper of that cheap chines collet chuck with a lot of runout. Hopefully my little pencil grinder is up to the task and gets things running true so I can test some more Banggood collets.

I need to improve the contact area between a piece of stock metal and the tool rest of my old lathe. So, I need a hand held metal scraper. In this video I try to make one out of some square stock, a piece of home grown oak and an old hack saw blade.

Last Saturday I brought home another wood lathe from the local flea market. It's my cheapest lathe yet and a bit of a unintentional purchase. In this video I get to find out if this old rusty woodlathe can still take a cut.

In my previous video I made a wood turning spindle gouge from an old file. In this video I do some testing on my self made chisel.
I also start work on turning a carvers mallet

I bought myself a book about wood turning and it came with some accessories :) So in time I will be making a mallet from an oak tree my brother cut down. I will be my first wood turning project.
If anyone recognises the lathe from this video please put it in the comments.

With the machine back on its stands and the electric motor reinstalled I try to take my first cut with the old world war 2 vintage lathe. I also find a huge problem that might be a show stopper for this project.

I found a nice big lump of round stock at the local scrappers. Lets see if I can hack of a piece using my vintage hydraulic hacksaw to make a backing plate for that dilapidated Cushman 4 jaw chuck I showed last year. It's going to be tight :)
