Here you can see how the floor was built on our little off grid log cabin. During this phase of construction we were dealing with several major fires in our area, ironically there we were trying to build our future home whilst our neighbors were packing up and leaving.
Needless to say we did not document this phase very well so hopefully viewers of this video will still be able to get a general idea of how we built the floor.

Well folks, it's been awhile. As some of you may know, normal or typical living is not really my thing. This year I am going to be trying something new... well kind of.
Life has been pretty busy lately, toiling for the shekels hasn't really allowed me to pursue the lifestyle I enjoy. Fortunately I have the opportunity to once again disappear into the woods and live a life less ordinary.
I like a good challenge, this Winter should be just that. Join me.
Thanks for watching.

Nothing beats a good brisk charge up a snowy mountain with a crap load of gear on your back... who says an over-nighter can't be a challenge!
With this philosophy in mind I decided to investigate some of the surrounding mountains near my off grid property. To make it a little more challenging I grabbed the Hennessy hammock, mustered some gear I had in my truck for some "challenge" weight, stuffed it in my bug out bag and said no thanks to my snow shoes.
Despite almost being impaled by a falling branch during the night and only a couple hours sleep, I had a great little trip.
Live Free and Breath... its awesome.

I am a big fan of the white stuff. Snow season allows me to shift gears and challenge myself in new ways. I have been rushing to finish a winter survival shelter before the white stuff starts to drop... any day now!
In this video I explain the basic construction of my winter survival shelter. I also talk a little about using lichen between the logs and other methods of constructing a log survival shelter.
Thanks for watching.

If you have been following my channel you will no doubt know that there was very little progress on the cabin build during Winter.
After every snow fall I headed up the mountain to free the tarp covering the cabin of its Winter burden...
In this video Mrs OGW and I inspect things around ye olde log cabin.

Here you can see me securing the first round of logs to the cabin floor and laying insulation between the logs.
Overtime as the logs dry and shrink, small gaps may or may not develop. The fiberglass insulation is not really acting as a typical insulator, it is performing the duty of preventing air flow from penetrating the interior of the cabin.
Traditionally materials like moss, mud or home brewed chinking ( mixture of mud, clay, grass, and moss) were used to fill any gaps between the logs.

Here you can see how I haul water during Winter. Living off the grid with no typical plumbing or water supply has it's challenges. Going forward I would like to have a well drilled. Obviously securing your own source of clean drinking water is the only way to go.
