Please turn with me to the second to the last Old Testament book called Zechariah. There God gives us the key to understanding His plan for the last days of Earth. Everything in God’s mind centers upon one place, one city, one word and that is JERUSALEM. When Jesus told His disciples and us about the future he built every word of it around one spot on earth. All that He says about His second coming is tied to Jerusalem. Jesus said keep your eye on Jerusalem. I am ascending from the Mount of Olives (the center of Jerusalem then and now) and I am returning to the Mount of Olives. According to the Lord, the end of the world centers around Jerusalem. The most mentioned place in the Bible is a city called Jerusalem. The center of the world and the prophetic universe is the same city. Jerusalem should be your favorite city. After all, it's the city that God has chosen for Himself in 1 Kings 11:13 “However I will not tear away the whole kingdom; I will give one tribe to your son for the sake of my servant David, and for the sake of Jerusalem which I have chosen.” Ancient maps put Jerusalem In the center of the world, and I think they were right. Jerusalem is also God's timepiece. The final events of world history will culminate there with the glorious return of Jesus Christ to the Mount of Olives. As mentioned over 800 times in God's Word —Jerusalem is a very important place. It was in Jerusalem that God promised Christ's coming as the Lamb of God to Abraham. It was here that David was promised a future son that would have an endless kingdom. It was here God has worked. With the picture of Jesus walking into the Jerusalem Temple and with a whip driving out anything that was not in keeping with God’s holiness, think of the verses before us. On His walkthrough of the new temple of God in His Church, Jesus found that believers had dragged into their lives and thus into His Temple, all sorts of bad stuff. Christ’s Report After Examining His Church 1-The saints in Ephesus had allowed other things in life to rob Jesus of first place in their hearts, in their schedules, in their concentration, and all that signaled that He was no longer the supreme love of their lives. 2-The Pergamites had gotten comfortable with the world, and had blended right into the activities, entertainments, and habits of the lost world around them and were no longer distinctive. 3-The Thyatirans were tolerating sin and allowed false doctrines to permeate Christ’s Church. 4-The Sardians were dead, they no longer looked alive in Christ, and their minds no longer appeared filled with new life from Christ. They were walking corpses acting, thinking, walking like all those dead in trespasses and sin around them. 5-And finally, the Laodiceans were so bad, so distracted by their materialistic pursuits of pleasure, and had become so un-needing of Christ that Jesus wanted to spit them out of His mouth, like a sickening taste, or a spoiled piece of food that could only be vomited out. Now, as we open again to Revelation 2-3, and read this vivid, eye-witness description of Christ, isn’t it clearer why Jesus has those flaming eyes, those feet of brass, and a sword coming out of His mouth? Jesus is walking through His new temple made up of the bodies of all those redeemed saints He has bought with His own blood; and the new temple has gotten almost as bad as the old one. Jesus is headed to cleanse the temple of His Church in chapters 2-3, and we see how He looks as He is on the way to do so in these verses in chapter 1. In Luke 21 Jesus preaches a sermon about the End of the World. The world's end is easier to comprehend when we can compare it to the world around us. That is what Jesus does. He points to things they knew and said amplify that, multiply that—exponentially, then you will understand what is coming. Basically, Jesus describes a Global Final Holocaust—not just of Jews and Christians—but of all humans! Within that message is what amounts to a survival guide for believers who have to exist during the Final Holocaust. Although the believers He is addressing are Tribulation saints, Jewish believers, and those saved through the ministry of the 144,000 Jewish evangelists and the Two Witnesses—the lessons have deep implications for us living in the days just prior to those events. This morning, Christ's words are a call for us to be ready for the onset of the worst time in history. It will begin after the Church is raptured, but the climate of the Tribulation is already here. Are you prepared to survive the storms before the final storm? Hitler’s Holocaust, was horrible as it murdered over six million Jews in the Final Solution—Hitler’s genocide. Briefly, here are the facts: About 1.5 million people died at Auschwitz, of whom about 1.2 million were Jewish. That means that 1/5th of the six million Jews exterminated by Hitler died in this complex Other groups of people who died included Polish political prisoners, Soviet prisoners of war, Gypsies, people with disabilities, and prisoners of conscience or religious faith. The complex contained three camps and at least 36 sub-camps which were built outside the town of Oswiecim, on an isolated 40 sq km site, between 1940 and 1942. If you listened this week there is an incredible comparison that can be drawn between Auschwitz and the Great Tribulation. • Most scholars see the first half of the seven-year final period of the earth’s history to be relatively normal. It is the second half that seems to have incredible destruction, demon armies, and death. So in Bible terms, the Great Tribulation lasts 3 ½ years or 42 months. The Final Holocaust is so terrifying, deadly, and inescapable that God personally steps in to stop it lest not one human be left alive!
