We couldn't help but laugh when my brother pulled this move. This is my 3rd brother attempting his first offroad challenge ever. We told him to drive into the hole and through it in Auto Mode and 4WD Lock. When he started slipping, he decided to take an easier path.
We made him go back and try it again in 4Low and Rock Mode to see the difference - In another video.

4th of July, 2021. We waited for high tide to try and fish some flounder. But all we got was 4 tiny Sculpins.

We just got up a bad bit of road and there was more up ahead. So we decided to turn around and call it a day. This is me coming down the deep washout. A lot easier than going up. You can see how tall the road was washed out on the right of the screen.

This is me testing a high angle climb in Auto Mode. I swear this hill looks steeper in person - LOL. I though I went higher up the hill, but it's hard to tell when I was inside the car. I didn't want to get up on top of the hill.
The Renegade in Auto Mode slipped at the top of the climb and the engine stalled. I rolled back down the hill with the engine stalled and in Drive. I didn't even realize it until I stopped and my brother told me.
Next I tired it in Auto Mode with 4 Low on...

This is me in Auto Mode playing in the a wash. Rain water from the city all run down into this area against the mountains. Auto Mode was very capable with the tire fully aired up. Can't wait until we get the Renegade out to the beach.
We experience getting stuck and pulling cars out of the area before. Anything without 4WD or 4X4 has to be wary of stopping or slowing down in this sand.
We drove off the road and followed the wash down stream a bit, but nothing was as soft sanded as this area.

My 1st brother coming down a deep drop in the road. He had just climb it and came back around. He slowed and hesitated because it felt weird for him when the car tires where off the ground. That's when I had to coach him a bit.
Wranglers and 4Runners would drop their tires into the hole with the amount of flex and articulation they have. With the Renegade's suspension design the car likes to drive on 3 wheels. It lifted itself up and over the hole, instead of dropping it's tire into it. Interesting way of getting through this obstacle compared to tradition 4x4s.
Check out the other video of him driving up this part.

Weather: It's been raining on and off the 2 days before. It was raining pretty good when the sun was coming up. Then it stopped raining completely. By the time I go to the bottom of the trail / the start of the trail, everything dried up but the ground was still damp. There was no puddles and all the runoff streams were dried. So I didn't expect to run into much trouble this day. But there was still a lot of clouds covering the top of the mountain. About the half way point is where everything started getting fun as you will see in the video.
By the look of the tire tracks, there was 1 other car that got out on the trail before I did, but he just missed the snow I ran into. The Renegade did get squirly 1 in the slushy trail and twice in the fresh snow. Traction control warning light came on here and there, but the tires never felt like they were spinning, nor did I ever get stopped. There was one time in the beginning, I had to back up once because I wanted to see if I could do the whole trail in FWD Auto Mode. I purposely put in on a bad line to see what it could do and ended up having to back up and change the line a bit. As I ran into the unexpected slushy road, I also engaged 4WD for the rest of the climb.
I really didn't expect it to be snowing at the top part of this trail. I was kind of expecting rain, but not snow. I was going to head up higher on the mountain to another trail to see some snow, but I got my fill here. I forgot my glasses, so I was relying on the wiper to see. Or else I would've keep the wiper at a slower setting so the GoPro could get better shots. I didn't do too much fooling around and exterior filming because I was by myself. My brother's we're able to come out with me this time.
As I got to the top of the trail... I thought of how uneasy I would've felt with the stock tires. But I was very confident with the mud tires. As I kept getting closer to the end, I realized how dangerous it was going to be coming down the mountain. The mud tires are great on dirt roads covered in snow, but not so good on pavement with ice/snow. I put the Renegade on Snow Mode and 4WD as soon as I hit pavement. I was thinking about heading down another trail down a bit further or even turning around and heading the way I came up, but both would've taken a lot longer than stay on the highway. Ultimately I chose to stay on the highway and did an average of 30 mph down the mountain. I'll post another video of me doing this and you will see why I was concerned.

I've failed climbing this hill in Auto Mode before and had to use Rock Mode with 4Low. After coaching my brother's on the climb, I also showed them how I would do it. I took the easy path and with some speed I made it up in Auto Mode and 4WD Lock on. No need for Rock Mode this time. When My brother attempt to climb this after me, we turned Rock Mode on and 4Low.

We spent a 9 hour day out on Coyote Trail. It was a 2 hour drive to get to Anza Borrego State Park. We stopped by the visitor center to check trail conditions and grab a map of the area. Coyote Trail is just north of the visitor center. The stretch of Borrego Spring Road contains several metal sculptors of ancient animals in the area. Coyote Canyon ends after about 2 hours. There is a closed off fence at the end. Then you have to turn around and come back out. The fun bit can be found around the halfway point around 1 hour in. There you can find the water crossings and climbing challenges. After that, you enter the 2nd half which doesn't offer much of a drive or change in the view. We spent extra time to record and take in some sights as well. A Hyundai was able to make it through all of the water crossings, up until the last one. After the last water crossing you enter a series of climbs that will require 4WD, 4X4, and height clearances. We stopped by Carlee's, a local bar and grill, before we headed home.
