Upgrade to Winter Storm Warning for major southeast Michigan cities
The winter storm watch issued early this morning has been upgraded to a winter storm warning for some areas. meaning the likelihood of heavy snow is growing. Winter storm warning criteria at this time of mid winter is six inches or more of snow possible. or slightly lesser snow and some freezing rain ice accumulation. The winter storm warning area could have either of those weather scenarios. Right now one tenth to two tenths of an inch of ice accumulation from freezing rain is possible in the heavy snow area. If the ice accumulation does occur. it will be at the expense of a couple of inches of snow. Either way the weather goes. we are going to have dangerous driving conditions eventually Thursday. Eventually is an important word I want to emphasize. As I noted in my morning update on the snow and freezing rain forecast. the main period of heavy winter precipitation is slower than yesterday’s thought. The winter storm warning now goes into effect at 3 p.m. Thursday. showing the expected later timing of the most significant snow. The winter storm warning now also expires a little later at 3 a.m. Friday. The winter storm warning is in effect from the southwest Michigan border counties to Battle Creek. Jackson. Hillsdale. Coldwater. Adrian. Ann Arbor. the entire Detroit area. Oakland County and St. Clair County. The official snow forecast from the National Weather Service is four to eight inches of snow in the winter storm warning area. The warning area also can expect one tenth to two tenths of an inch of ice accumulation from freezing rain and sleet. A few of the best computer models show six to seven inches of snow will be common. An isolated nine inch amount is possible. The purple shaded area from Kalamazoo to Lansing to Flint to Sanilac County is a winter weather advisory for three to five inches of snow. The one important tend I want you to grasp is the delayed timing of the heaviest precipitation. There will be a round of lighter snow and brief freezing rain Thursday morning across all of the southern half of Lower Michigan. but the heavy snow will occur late in the afternoon and Thursday evening.

While awaiting updated CDC guidance. here's the data states are using to lift Covid 19 restrictions
(CNN)States that recently announced plans to lift either indoor or school mask mandates have at least two things in common: Hospitalization rates are on the decline. and all except one have a larger share of fully vaccinated residents than the national average. Most of the governors in those states have linked these metrics to their moves to lift some Covid 19 mitigation measures. That's raising questions about whether these metrics should play a larger role in mitigation decisions nationwide more than Covid 19 case counts. Meanwhile. shifts to phase out state mask mandates conflict with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's guidance to continue wearing masks in areas with 'high' or 'substantial' Covid 19 transmission. which includes about 99% of US counties. And much of the United States still is not boosted against Covid 19: Only about 27% of the US population has received a coronavirus vaccine booster shot. according to CDC data. The CDC is working to review and possibly update its guidance on mask wearing. but for now. states appear to be outpacing the White House in planning for a post Omicron period. Although many indoor mask mandates are implemented at the city and county level. six states still have mandates in place: California. Hawaii. Illinois. New Mexico. Oregon and Washington. Many of these states were early adopters of strict Covid 19 safety...

Trump says accounting firm Mazars left his company over ‘intimidation’
Donald Trump on Tuesday night insisted a former Trump Organization accounting firm cut ties with his company over “vicious intimidation tactics” from the New York authorities investigating him. The former president alleged accounting firm Mazars was forced to stop working with his company because of “prosecutorial misconduct” by New York Attorney General Letitia James. who is investigating the Trump Organization’s financial dealings. Trump also blamed the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office for the breakup with the company’s long term accounting firm. “Mazars has been threatened. harassed. and insulted like virtually no other firm has ever been.” Trump said in a lengthy statement. The firm’s “decision to withdraw was clearly a result of the AG’s and DA’s vicious intimidation tactics used—also on other members of the Trump Organization.” he said. “Mazars. who were scared beyond belief. in conversations with us made it clear that they were willing to do or say anything to stop the constant threat which has gone against them for years.” Trump continued. The accounting firm announced it would stop working with the Trump Organization in a Feb. 9 letter made public Monday. In the letter to a Trump Organization lawyer. the firm said the decision was made because it determined the former president’s “Statements of Financial Condition” from 2011 to 2020 were unreliable. A lawyer for Mazars said in the letter that the statements “as a whole” don’t “contain material discrepancies.” Still. “we believe our advice to you to no longer rely upon those financial statements is appropriate.” the letter continued. Trump’s lawyers argued the statements were truthful and a Trump Organization spokesperson reiterated that the Mazars letter said it didn’t find “material discrepancies.” In his statement. Trump praised his company and estimated his net worth to be around $8 billion to $9 billion. “We have a great company with fantastic assets that are unique. extremely valuable and. in many cases. far more valuable than what was listed in our Financial Statements.” he wrote. James has said her office uncovered evidence that shows Trump’s company used “fraudulent or misleading” valuations of golf clubs. skyscrapers and other properties to get loans and tax benefits. The attorney general is seeking testimony from Trump and his kids Ivanka and Don Jr. as part of her investigation. The Trump camp has repeatedly accused James of unfairly targeting the family company for political reasons and has asked courts to vacate the subpoenas and halt her lawsuit.
